Paul Harvey Has Left The Planet...
Probably your parents or grandparents remember him...or Bartcop...

The man's career lastest nearly 70 years...truly a unique voice on the radio.

ABC Radio Networks President Jim Robinson released the following statement:

4. It Was A Different Day
I used to hear him every morning as a kid...never thought twice about his politics. Thought he was a cranky old dude...even in the 60's. I actually met him...a nice man...creepy, but all who knew the guy loved working with him.

and he was far too conservative for my parents to have appreciated him much, but sometimes his homespun tales did resonate with them.

There are conservatives who deserve nothing but scorn but Paul Harvey wasn't one of them. He was viewed more like the cranky uncle in my family.

9. I beg to differ
but ymmv. :)

When you excuse slavery and endorse handing out smallpox-infected blankets to Native Americans, that is pretty out there.

15. But he was an old anachronism..
Like the cranky uncle who blamed everything on the wrong people and circumstances, one couldn't make him see the light. On some issues he was okay. On others he was just out there like the crazy uncles.

Limbaugh is far more noxious IMHO.

21. Politics aside, RIP to a broadcast legend
As a tribute, here's the man at work, broadcasting live on a rather gloomy Friday evening, November 22, 1963:

22. Haven't heard him in years, but..
My parents listened to his broadcasts every day. I knew he was a right winger, but he never seemed as obsessional as today's professional blowhards. Back then, I kind of enjoyed him, too.

Incidentally, over at freeperville, someone mentioned how he's being trashed at DU. Certainly doesn't look like that in this thread.

23. When I was a kid my grandfather would put him on at noon every day to listen to "the rest of the
story" which were kind of interesting. Grand dad was a Roosevelt Democrat so he was never persauded by Harvey's conservative commentaries, but he did enjoy listening to his "rest of the story" historical tidbits.
