1. Uh...did you expect us to recognize this guy's face?
I didn't, and had to look at the picture's properties to figure out who the heck he is. Perhaps we're not hearing about him because he's not a household word sort of character. Ya think?

this is always fun to read over again...

More news on 26 year old Michael Aaron Lay, pictured right, (previous posts), aide to Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10) recently indicted on voter fraud by a North Carolina grand jury and registered to vote at the home of McHenry.

Pictured right: Michael Aaron Lay, future convict

I’m sure somebody will end up claiming that Lay doesn’t live with McHenry. If that is claimed, then it just seems as though McHenry’s been getting secret night-time visits from his good “pal” Lay (src, emphasis mine):

While looking over the activities of Michael Aaron Lay during the 2004 election year my attention was drawn to a traffic ticket that he recieved in March of 2005. Originally, the ticket drew my interest because Mr. Lay continued to show his voter registration in North Carolina, but on the day of the ticket his residence, his vehicle registration and his license were all from Tennessee. Out of curiousity I pulled the ticket from Gaston County, and I noted the time of the infraction. Michael Aaron Lay was pulled over at 4:57 am on a Thursday morning heading down Highway 321 in Dallas, Gaston County. Presumably Mr. Lay was leaving his “home” in Cherryville on his way to I-40 and Knoxville, TN where he was attending law school. My question is this: Is it really appropriate and seemly for a 29/30 year old Congressman to be sharing his home with a 23/24 year old law student on a weekday/school night such that the young college student is up at 4:30 am and headed back to school at 5:00 am. In my opinion there are only a few good reasons for a young man to drive 3 1/2 hours on a Wednesday after classes to spend the night with someone and then get up the next morning at 4:30 and drive the 3 1/2 drive back to make his classes. I cannot imagine what legitimate tasks in this “Age of Information” could not be accomplished over phone, fax and internet. If this young man’s visit was not for inappropriate reasons, at least our Congressman should realize and avoid such an obvious “appearance of impropriety”. Michael Aaron Lay is a young man compared to Patrick McHenry. It should be obvious to the Congressman and anyone else that a single man in Patrick’s position would be well advised to avoid overnight guests who find it necessary to scuttle out of town on a school night before the sun is even up.

Wow.

McHenry has some answering to do… and now that his night-time friend is going down for breaking the law, there is no hiding.

Patrick McHenry Voter Fraud Case Continued

A campaign worker for Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry indicted for voter fraud was granted a continuance on Monday.

Michael Aaron Lay did not enter a plea during his arraignment in Gaston County, but was granted a continuance until Aug. 6.

Lay, 26, was indicted in May on felony voter charges. He allegedly voted twice in elections in 2004 while living in a district where he wasn’t a permanent resident.

He was listed as a resident at McHenry’s home in Cherryville, but federal campaign records indicate Lay’s paychecks were sent to an address in Tennessee.

McHenry’s home doubled as a campaign headquarters and base for several supporters, including Lay and two other supporters.

14. Isn't He the Idiot Who Accused Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel of Leaking the Mark Foley Emails?
I seem to remember that Wolf Blizter actually did his job during that interview and kept asking him if he had any proof and this doofus kept sputtering away.

16. Yep, that's him
He was all in an uproar about how Foley's privacy was being invaded over the release of these text messages. The solicitation of underaged young men didn't seem to bother him quite so much for some reason.

21. Guess he'd have plenty to worry about if someone leaked his emails
at least his young men appear to be of the legal age type. But hey, another hypocrite - bet he'll be trumpeting all over NC now that they've introduced a "Save Marriage" amendment.

15. More on McHenry voter fraud
http://www.democrats.com/patrick-mchenry-voter-fraud-sleepover-scandal

"Lay was one of six college-age men living temporary at McHenry’s Cherryville home during the primary campaign, and all showed up in N.C. State Board of Elections records as having voted in Gaston County."

McHenry won the primary by only 86 votes.

A little background is needed here: McHenry's district is pretty much a safe Republican district. The seat was up for grabs in 2004 following the retirement of Cass Ballenger. There were 10 Republican candidates vying for the Republican nomination in the primary, and the favored candidate going up against McHenry was popular local sheriff David Huffman. The winner of the Republican primary would almost certainly win the seat. Voter turnout is generally significantly lower in primaries than general elections and Republican primary voters tend to be more conservative. McHenry had national ties with the Bush campaign and ran a really nasty well-financed smear campaign against Sheriff Huffman. Not to mention the fact that he got a lot of votes from out-of-state young men living in his home/campaign office who may have voted illegally.

Lots of good information from his Wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_T._McHenry

McHenry was opposed in 2008 by Democrat and Iraq war vet Daniel Johnson, after shaking off Republican primary challenger Lance Sigmon, a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel. Congressman McHenry earned rebuke from both the NC Democratic and NC Republican parties for his comments about Daniel Johnson, calling him "Nancy Pelosi's Chosen Recruit" with "pockets stuffed with cash from Washington liberals". For someone with no military experience who is funded by the likes of Countrywide Mortgage, this no-account little carpetbagger has a really big mouth.

18. McHenry tries to edit Wikipedia on voter fraud charges
http://bluenc.com/patrick-mchenry-tries-to-hide-evidence-online

Interesting....someone seems to be trying to edit out the Wikipedia info on the voter fraud charges. The mystery editors don't seem to like any references to McHenry's sexual preferences either.

The voter fraud indictments are still out there. Should they come to trial, this could get interesting. McHenry is a product of the national Republican/Bush campaign machine. Even the local Republicans aren't too crazy about him.

19. Republicans Against McHenry website
Great website:

http://republicansagainstpatrickmchenry.com /

My favorite bit:

Has anyone else noticed that Patrick McHenry is paying to put Anti-Johnson ads up during repear episodes of What Not To Wear? Is he trying to advertise for political minds or just attract homosexual men?

For those of you who are interested, the airing in which it was shown was the night of the 17th of October, at approximately 11:30 or so- late night. Evidently, a large percentage of McHenry’s voterbase is insomniac gay men with a taste for fashion.

Also more info on McHenry's donors including AIG, Washington Mutual, Bear Sterns, Freddie Mae, Freddie Mac and how he stands up for them on the whole issue of sub-prime mortgages, etc.
