katie's tactic - Certainly grounds for firing imo
"Some people say" CBS should NOT let this slide. Has there been any word from CBS on this yet?

1. You can't be serious. With the long, sordid history of "60 Minutes"?
That show has been nothing but yellow journalism since its inception. Trying to justify something ridiculous with "some people say" is pretty standard for them.

6. Doesn't mean it's too late to remind them ...
about jouralistic integrety. Now maybe they will act, especially with the media climate what it is today. This imo would be a move that would increase their ratings dramatically. No I am not kidding iow

8.  "60 minutes" has won many awards, has done investigative
reporting, and is highly respected!

Molly Ivins apparently thought enough of it to be a commentator.

3. Some people say Katie is getting fired for many reasons...
including the fact that she grilled a woman with cancer and her husband. Some people also say that her low ratings are also the cause.

13. After she is fired from the evening news CBS will have to put her somewhere to
earn her money so she will probably be a regular on 60 minutes...
The producer had control over this type of questioning by Katie but let it slide..

24. Maybe this was her "tryout" for 60 minutes after she
"steps down to spend more time with her children?" And maybe the 60 minutes producer doesn't want her, either, and let her hang herself? Maybe her imminent firing is why she came off so pissed off and evil... trying to play Serious Investigative Journalist. Even Mike Wallace seems nicer than she did.

4. I doubt CBS will do anything...
She was, after all, following the corporate media script.

I wish they'd pull her off 60 Minutes. When she's on it's really unwatchable.

9. Anything she's on is unwatchable.
I was never able to watch the Today Show because of her. She's ruined the CBS Evening News, they should have kept Bob Schieffer on. He was actually increasing their ratings, especially among the coveted 18-35 group and was gaining in popularity every day. But she's put them right back at the bottom, with her fluff shit and her pandering to and fawning over the right while slamming Dems at every opportunity. She's nothing more than a corporate media whore for the RW.

30. You are probably correct and she does follow the media script..
and they all do. CNN and others that might seem "liberal' friendly at times feed us crumbs to get our attention and then watch out, they are only able to lean to the left for a short time 'till the producers remind them who signs the checks..But with Katie she moved up pretty fast and if the truth were known she might have used more than her journalistic talents to get there..

with enthusiasm. What a face-saving opportunity to correct the horrible mistake of hiring her in the first place.

15. I do not think the questions were hers, I don't like her at all but
she'd have to be a big hypocrite to question something she did herself. She went to work when her husband had cancer. Nobody questioned other male politicians when they worked while their wives coped with cancer. ronald Reagan among them.

16. An interviewer, like a lawyer, never asks a question they don't
already know the answer to. Those loaded questions were actually softball questions. She knew Elizabeth and John would hit it out of the park. I am not a big fan of Katie, but she did OK. She allowed the Edwards' to answer questions that may have been on the minds of many.

20. No it's not.
If it were an interview with a Republican, we'd be praising her.

She may have gone a bit overboard, but it's not a firing offense (but, neither was Rather's).

21. That could be what it was about
I can't say you can take this to the bank, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Katie was set up to have her head handed to her.

CBS would like to stop the hemorrhaging of news ratings, and she is the hemorrhage.

This is an excuse to let her go sooner rather than later.

23. Katie has long been considered (on RW blogs)
a liberal shill, so this is kind of interesting. I guess if everybody wants your head, you're impartial?

Actually, there were words I would have liked to have seen phrased differently ('some say') but I just can't see anything that would justify firing her.

I wouldn't be surprised if she went over the questions with the Edwards' first, anyway. She had to ask the ugly stuff to give them a chance to respond. And if she had put on the white kid gloves, the other side would be snorting and stamping that it was a set up.

Bottom line, the E's handled themselves very, very well and it has been a positive for them.

she deserves all the contempt and embarrassment they can throw at her.
Even Laura Ingram has supported The Edwards family on this and she is no friend to

Hey! This is great! You can say anything -- no matter how libelous -- as long as preceed it with the words "some people say..."

29. Here is an example of "Some People say..." on the CBS
web site. When I first checked it on Sunday eve after 60 Minutes, I read 10 pages of negative comments concerning Couric. Currently there are 94 pages. Here's what MurrowCries says:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/24/60minutes/main2605038.shtml
CBS made a big mistake to pay Couric a huge salary for her biased version of the news and interviewing.... they could have found any low life in the gutter that would have done the Edwards hatchet job for pennies. In a time of corporate cutbacks to economize, CBS is throwing money away on this overpaid news reader they mistakingly thought was a talented interviewer that would increase their ratings.

The "people are saying" interview line was inexcusably immature and lacking depth for a senior citizen like Couric who pretends perkiness. So lets use it on Couric as follows .....

People are saying that Couric should NOT be allowed to keep her job at CBS because she refuses to travel the way Rather and others have.

People are saying Couric is hypocritical.

People are saying Couric is a mindless joke.

People are saying Couric is NOT the girl next door because none of their neighbors would have acted so disrespectfully to a cancer victim and their spouse.

People are saying it is time for Couric to apologize to the Edwards and resign in disgrace for her lack of sensibility.

People are saying has CBS no shame. Posted by Murrowcries at 01:01 PM : Mar 27, 2007
