As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me.

Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.

Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused. At the same time, I have had conversations with Post editors about the situation and I can assure you - without a doubt - that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation. It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such.

We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community.

1. Sounds like those protests are working. When did Murdoch ever
apologize before?

No you fucking idiot. Apologize to EVERYONE. When you say anyone who felt offended you imply that there is something different and wrong with those of us who were offended.

17. I am sure all of them thought Bush* did a superb job as well.
I suspect that most readers of the Post felt just fine with the cartoon. Why do right wingers insist upon being offensive. It was an offensive cartoon whether racist or not. It was created to offend people. Republicans seem to love that mentality or Rush would not have a radio show.

4. sounds to me like murdoch saw the boycott on the wall.
al sharpton wasn't enough, but nationwide NAACP and it's friends boycotting all fox stations etc.... the sound of money being lost. at least it wasn't a half assed apology that blamed the offended parties.

5. So does this mean Rupert is going to clean up the Fox networks?
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 08:36 AM by Skidmore
I heard last night that Sharpton is going to try to break up his holdings in the NY media market. This may have less to do with community sensibilities than potential loss of empire.

6. bite me rupert - it will take a lot more than that lame admission of culpability
to clear your name. Your media outlets are RW tools. Hell - even when you apologize you call a bill that helps millions of people a bad piece of legislation.

8. And just how are you going
to become "more attuned to the sensitivities of our community" Mr. Murdoch? Is there diversity on your editorial board?

13. I Heard That WSJ Circulation Has Fallen Since He Bought It
If i heard it right, circulation is down 8% since he bought the paper. So, he's probably panicking a bit right now.
