4. Was it on C-span yesterday? I wish I had seen it. They were
talking about it on Mourning Joe today. Chuck Todd showed this clip. He
said no Republicans will want to go to the WH any more because O is so
smooth and makes them look small.

He has a stray piece falling down in the front of his head. He looks like a senile old man.

McCain to talk about helicopters, shows that they still remain delusional.

12. And the helicopters were ordered up under GOP administration
Amazing how DOD budget and deficits ONLY matter when there is a Democratic President.

GOP in the Oval = attention on Teri Schavio's feeding tube 24/7 and NO attention to DOD procurement or deficits that have pretty well bankrupted America for generations.

McCain is still a whore, sucking when the corporations tell him to and blowing when he loses his ability to maintain civil discourse.

16. Dumb question. Almost afraid to ask. Can a helicopter
fly long distance? I mean, is that why there are so many? Like they are stationed in different
parts of the country - just in case they are needed?

25. Not a pilot so not sure what the range is. Know Reagan flew from fairly deep in Mexico to Tucson
Also guessing the big bump in price tag over normal helicopters would be partly due to the likelihood Marine One would have to have absolute state of the art communication and encryption tools on board. It HAS to pretty much be a top of the line command center. And you can't have just one. Figure maintenance down time for each craft. My guess is chopper one gets better than average care.

28. Some info...
Presidents have had helicopters at their service since 1957, when Dwight D. Eisenhower bristled at how long it took to get from a New England vacation getaway to an airport during a crisis. Over the years, sightings of presidents boarding Marine One on the White House lawn have produced memorable moments, perhaps most famously Richard M. Nixon's two-armed, double-V departure after his resignation in 1974.

Many of the White House helicopters have been in service since that era. The current fleet includes 19 aircraft -- 11 Sikorsky VH-3D Sea Kings and eight VH-60N Black Hawks -- and the oldest have flown presidents for 33 years.

The squadron also serves the vice president, defense secretary, Navy secretary, visiting heads of state and other officials. So many helicopters are needed because the president typically travels with two or more when he flies, with the extras ferrying staff and Secret Service, serving as backups and playing decoy. When a president makes multiple stops, additional sets of helicopters must be airlifted to his next destinations.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/16/AR2008031602936_2.html

I hope Obama's safety isn't compromised! If the fleet is old, that is an issue!

32. Depends on the type
but not really in general. Planes are faster and have a longer range. Some helicopters CAN have a long range though. In terms of advantages though, the helicopter doesn't need a long runway like most planes do. It can land on the white house lawn, a plane can't.

9. Heh. McCain obviously thought he was delivering a "gotcha" at Obama.
What a damn fool. Obama turned it around on McCain without being mean or snarky (kinda inferring that McCain knew all about helicopters but Obama didn't).

McCain asked for what he got. He bacame a "prop" (what Chuck Todd said Republicans are going to be afraid of with Obama) but he did it to himself.

Obama was gracious, humorous, good natured and natural. McCain looked a little pissed, even tho he had to show that he "laughed" at the joke on himself...

13. IF McCain was actually the boss of himself, he would hire better writers
The pap his current patrons have written for him is pretty fucking pathetic. His flat delivery of the material seems to indicate he isn't fond of the crap he is ordered to spew.

at taking in the questions, and then giving it back to the asker...
McCain makes a complaint, and O. asks him to take a leadership role
in dealing with the issue. Brilliant, IMHO.

21. Hi CTY
Did you really think he was snarky? I thought he was
actually nicer than during the campaign. But I
guess it could have been a ploy to sound cooperative
and then throw the zinger in about the helicopter

I love John Kerry - but can you imagine how he would
have handled that? (At least the old John Kerry). O handled
it brilliantly and it didn't sound like an act whatsoever. Kerry
would have gotten all defensive.

What a nasty, negative old fart - he just doesn't get it, he can't get the best of Obama, Obama is smarter than he is.

it was overshadowed by pride and hope.

the repugs have inauguration envy that has filled them with hate and contempt, poor thugs, they just don't get it - our guy is very likable, very smart and he actually won by a majority -

eta - glad you got to go, it's good to see you :hi:

24. good point--of all the people to complain about the cost of a flying machine!
What a tool. :eyes:

As dire a situation as this country is in, seeing him try and totally fail to deliver a zinger was a useful reminder, for purposes of comparison, of what deep, deep shit we'd be in if he were president.
