Fundies spread hate on campus
They're at it again. Two or three guys with posters and loud voices warning students that they will go to HELL if they don't show support for Jesus by hating certain groups of people. Today's hate list at Cal. State Long Beach was unusual.

"Child molesters, atheists, and Mormons are the scum of the earth," said one of these clowns. He went on to explain why he hates the LDS church. It has to do with what they believe, not anything they have done. Atheists, of course, are targeted because of what they DON'T believe. Only the child molesters are targeted because of their deeds.

2. There was one on my campus
University of Tennessee, spouting the shit you'd expect. He spat in a friend of mine's face, so my friend threw a Pepsi on him. The police were called soon after.

Scary that these people still exist.

21. That fool is still around terrorizing the Oval!?
Jed and Cindy (also known as the disco queen) and some old idiot (who's name I can't remember) used to visit OSU back in the early 80's. I don't think they won many converts considering all they did was call us names and annoy us.

30. Brother Jed is still around?
I caught his spiel at the University of Minnesota back in the early 1980s. People would take lawn chairs and coolers of beer, soda and sandwiches and heckle him relentlessly.

5. At my university, we see the same thing, except it's sometimes one group against the other.
We don't have counter-protesters per se. Being that my campus happens to be in North Mississippi, Bible Belt Country, it often turns into a pissing match between who is more pure or more correct on interpretation of Scripture. Campus police have been called several times whenever the more inflammatory preachers come around. There have been fist fights over this stuff. Religious violence on campus--I'd have thought that died out with the Enlightenment.

7. Kind of ironic, don't you think.
Jesus preached love for one another...but his followers want to duke it out with each other over whose interpretation of Jesus' teachings is "right"

A real hit that causes a stir on campus is when somebody walks around with a sign that says, "God hates faggots." That usually brings out a bunch of people who do not necessarily disagree with the sign but disagree with the delivery. Of course, that group excludes the gays on campus who may see the sign.

19. Yes, it is very ironic.
The most vicious fights were over hair-splitting details. During the Reformation, people couldn't agree about how the wine supposedly changed during the Sunday ritual. If you didn't agree with the local authorities, you were labelled a heretic and likely to be burned at the stake.

that sign would read "Child molesters and religionists are the scum of the earth". When, on DU, have you seen anyone calling atheists themselves "scum"?

23. Jed and Cindy!!!!
Ah, you bring back memories...it just wasn't springtime on an Ohio college campus without them marching around in the biggest public forum they could find, telling all the girls in shorts and short skirts that they were going to Hell, and all the guys that they were whoremongers.

We'll take the atheists, the feminists, the gays, and the rock stars, because we like them, but as for the rest: Hell is full. We are all fulled up. We don't need any more, tyvm. Tell them, they can keep the others. The overcrowding situation down here is getting to be overwhelming at this point. No vacancies. No exceptions.

26. We had one at my Alma Mater that came around once a year...
Usually hung out all day in front of the Student Union Building on a day in Early to mid September when the weather was still warm. The guy was from a fundie church that's infamous in my homer state for pestering people who use the nude beach on the Wisconsin River near Madison.
