1. Do you mean universal health 'care,' or universal health 'insurance?'
There's a difference

3. What's the differrence? When I looked up "universal health insurance"
in Wikipedia just now, it re-directed me to "universal health care," as if the two were synonymous.

6. The difference is a new thing...
Where people promote private companies covering everyone as a form of Universal Health Insurance....

On the other hand, I have real government owned Universal Health Insurance. I pay a monthly premium. I have no deductable. There are no disqualifying pre-existing conditions.

So essentially, its there is a fake Universal Health Insurance (private mandated) and single-payer.

15. Go to Wiki, look up National Health Plan
Or just use this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Health_Care

"Publicly-funded health care is health care that is paid for by the government. It is financed entirely or primarily by taxes instead of by private payments to for-profit insurance companies (i.e. insurance premiums), or directly to health care providers (including copayments and deductibles)."

5. I hope the Dems hold them accountable then. They SHOULD be able
to make Reps pay in the polls in 2010 for obstructing if they (the Dems) are smart and tough enough.

4. True universal health care will not come to pass in MY lifetime
Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 08:00 PM by SoCalDem
why?

It would require a national ID card
It would require the prohibition of ALL employer participation
It would require the folding in of the VA, Medicaid and medicare...into ONE entity
It would require complete removal of current insurance companies.

Without those four features, we get a hodge-podge Frankenstein monster of what we have now..

7. No way. We're never getting single payer.
Too many toes get stepped on, too much profit gets removed.

13. We could get it if we have a veto proof majority in Congress. We don't.
And we would need more progressives as well in Congress. Then there would be a chance that HR 676 could pass both House and Senate and the President wouldn't have a say in it. Maybe it's time to start electing Paul Wellstone type Democrats into the House and Senate and start weeding out all those DLCers from our ranks.

10. The money that could have jump-started a health care program was blown on the banks. I would say no.
You can thank the good folks on Wall Street for fucking over America, and the rest of the world. Because of their actions, they may have well doomed the United States to suffer through the Second Great Depression. The suffering will be epic.
