Sean Hannity's Ridiculous War Against Socialism
Bob Cesca Political Author, Blogger, and New Media Producer
Posted February 18, 2009

When I watched http://www.bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2009/02/wtf_20.html">the video of Sean Hannity's Tuesday night show, I was half expecting him to leap out of his chair, grab his producer by the lapels and scream something about a goblin on the wing of the airplane -- all puffy and bloodshot, hair mussed, tie undone, spittle and sweat flying all around.

There was Sean Hannity on television: breathlessly announcing the red dawn of "socialism you can believe in." "The New America." He called the recovery bill, "a liberal hijacking of the American way of life." Uh-huh. Hijacking. Terrorists rather than goblins on the wing. I get it. And even though we just wrapped up eight years of the largest government expansion in our country's history, Hannity derided the recovery bill as "the largest government expansion in our country's history."

But, unbelievably, that wasn't the most ludicrous part of the show. The frantic announcement was preceded by a http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/17/hannitys-apocalyptic-stim_n_167763.html">newsreel-style montage featuring video of the various congressional floor debates about the bill, footage of Boehner throwing down the bill and, naturally, President Obama signing the bill. All backed with the frighteningly pulse-pounding choir chants of the apocalyptic anthem "O Fortuna."

There's no gray area in what he was suggesting. Socialism is here, said Hannity, and it's really scary. The choir music said so.

2. Hannity is the stupidest American in history
which is saying a lot. He insults the least of our intelligence. I wish him ill fortune.

7. He's not even close to being the stupidest
Now if you had said his fans are the stupidest, then I might believe you.

Don't forget that some people will say or do anything for money. Hannity is pretty smart.

You don't have to be 2 standard deviations (or more) on the left side of the bell curve to be a Hannity fan, but it sure is a great start.

10. He may not be the stupidest, but that's pretty faint praise
I think Hannity is scared and insecure, and it comes across on his show. He knows he doesn't have the smarts or the skills to interact with a non-sycophant, and it makes him appear desperate for respect...

14. I would agree completely
However he has developed the ability to appeal greatly to the weak minded so that in itself says something. It might put him somewhere around snake oil salesmen if you're considering his worth as a human being, but it at least means he capable of functioning at that level.

It takes a much bigger idiot to derive the vast majority of their ideology from such a person. I live in Texas and naturally I run across a lot of Hannity fans. They are pretty easy to spot because they repeat the exact same nonsense, and the truly funny part is they think they are well informed for doing so. Naturally it's always a big joy to confront them with conflicting facts Hannity would never tell them and then watch as they are reduced to a slobbering moran when they have nothing left as a retort other than "you just don't get it". To which I reply, "That's because I don't want to get a case of the dipshits."

13. I thought Hannity was the dumbest too. But what about Glenn Beck?
I know, I know, it's a hard call. But Beck is so overwhelmingly stupid and clueless in everything he says, I figure he's got to be the dumbest. Then I see a clip of Hannity and realize no, he's the dumbest.

Round and round it goes. And by the way, these are national figures. The local wingnut radio hosts are much, much worse. (Remember "It's appeasement, Chris! It's the same thing!"?)

15. I would certainly nominate Beck to replace Colmes.
It would be like watching a new installment of a Dumb and Dumber sequel each night.

Hannity is the epitome of a pompous asshole and Beck never tires of humiliating himself. They would make a great pair.

4. To avoid socialism
So I guess Hannity won't call the socialized fire dept. if his house is on fire. And he won't call the socialized police if someone breaks into his house. And god forbid, don't use the public library. :eyes:

6. Hannity frantically trying to sell the new 'Word of Fear" to America
In 50 years we've been told to fear so much.

How about being afraid of fear merchants?
