Cops on school buses - but not for disruptive kids
Cops will ride buses to nab careless motorists
By JIM SULLINGER
The Kansas City Star

Starting tomorrow, Shawnee Mission students on some school bus routes will notice something unusual on the bus — a policeman.

They won’t be there to corral disruptive students. Police officers are hoping to catch motorists who disregard the stop sign when a bus loads or unloads students.

The number of motorists disobeying this traffic law has been growing, with 35 reported incidents this year in the Shawnee Mission School District.

“We have a serious problem with vehicles not stopping for our buses when they are picking up and dropping of students,” said Les Hutchinson, safety and training supervisor for the Durham School Services firm located in Merriam.

1. Excellent Idea
Just last week I saw a freaking moron bitch yapping on her cell phone zoom right by a stopped school bus on the highway. We have no kids but I grasp the concept of safety and If I'm inconvenienced so be it. No doubt there is plenty for the cops to do, when plenty happens. I welcome this idea.

3. Film at 11 - my dad
flying by a bus in his pick-up. Back in 1970. People need to be reminded, I hope they're putting this on the news because that will work best.

4. Only in Johnson County - KCMO kids, you're on your own!
Most SMKS kids who are old enough drive to school, so they'll be ticketing HS kids and nannies.
