(Dogtown & Z-Boys) Director of Crips and Bloods: Made In America, Talks About His Latest Documentary
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 02:14 PM by ihavenobias
Here are some and here is an excerpt of the synopsis:

"...Combining unprecedented access into the worlds of active gangs, Crips and Bloods: Made in America offers a compelling, character-driven documentary narrative which chronicles the decades-long cycle of destruction and despair that defines modern gang culture. The shocking war-zone reality of the South LA Gangs, the Crips and the Bloods.

From the genesis of LA’s gang culture to the shocking, war-zone reality of daily life in the South L.A., the film chronicles the rise of the Crips and Bloods, tracing the origins of their bloody four-decades long feud..."

Documentary filmmaker Stacy Peralta (Dogtown and Z-Boys) talks to Cenk about his new movie Crips And Bloods (not a youtube clip, will probably open in Windows Media Player, Quicktime, etc.): http://youngturks.wmod.llnwd.net/a591/o1/2-11-09Peralata_Int.wmv

PS---Obviously the failed 'War On Drugs' plays into this issue, so it was nice to .

2. I don't recall that coming up in the interview but...
Did any $$ made by (Taxi To The Darkside, Bowling For Columbine, Fill In The Blank With Critically Acclaimed Documentary) go to pay the victims of these people?

Generally the answer is almost always no. But to the extent that these films increase awareness of various issues (at the bare minimum), I think they're doing something positive.

5. K&R for others that may be interested.
I'm just not into it anymore. Doesn't matter how good the director is. I have seen plenty of different kinds of documentaries on gangs. This has been going on so long and nothing seems to have changed this kind of mindset.

8. This looks good...
It's about time we shed some light on these bastards. They have caused so much loss and sorrow, not only here in LA, but elsewhere as these gangs have spread.
