3. I said the same thing to a RWer when discussing the recovery package.
What did we get for the trillions spent on Iraq?

Stupid answer was - well taking out Saddam was brilliant, and even the countries around Iraq like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, etc were happy to see Saddam go.

That raises a couple questions, which he obviously had not asked himself
a) Why don't these happy, some rich, countries help foot the bill?
b) Why did it cost so much to take Saddam out, when it took far less to take out the elected head of Iran, and install the Shah. (And Iran would probably not be a problem if that had not been done.)

6. Rushbo hasn't given his talking points yet
You can't pose a question like this on a Sunday and expect an answer. When the head of the GOP weighs in on his hate radio program on Monday, then you'll have your answer.

7. Because their sense of entitlement is way greater than any "welfare queen"
Edited on Sun Feb-15-09 11:25 AM by Joanie Baloney
Republicans believe that as long as they hold down a job (non-union of course because unions are EEEEEVVVVVIL) they don't have to contribute to the common good. And all the common infrastructure they enjoy is in their tiny little minds already paid for and free to them.

Republicans bitch so much about "entitlements", but the fact is you never met someone with a REAL sense of entitlement until you've met a republican.

8. I'm not a L/F but I have an answer.

There are no bogus "Emergency No-Bid Contracts" involved this time around.

Their cronies aren't getting their pockets lined and they don't like it one bit.

10. I had the misfortune of being in the car yesterday and listening to local rw talking heads
I could list the talking points they were given easily as I tuned into a morning show on my way out and an afternoon show on my way back. Their one talking point was "What happened to the promise that we (the public) would have 48 hours to read this bill before they voted on it?". they played a clip over and over and over of Boehner dropping the heavy bill on the floor with a thud! They had nothing. I remember thinking that, instead of complaining that no one had time to read it, why didn't they take the time to read it before they commented on it? Why complain that no one's read it when they could just read the damn thing themselves? There was no outrage raised when they voted on the Patriot Act without reading it, was there, other than Michael Moore that is. They didn't seem to care that no one had read that garbage.

Oh, there was one more thing they whined about ... earmarks. How this bill was filled with pork. It got me thinking about pork and I decided that it's not the pork that they object to as much as where the pork goes that disturbs them. If it's a project that stimulates their interests, then it's brilliant legislation. If it stimulates someone else's interests, then it's pure pork. The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

Their only suggestion was to give a tax "holiday" for all payroll taxes. Just where do they think the government gets it's funding from? Could they take a "paycheck holiday" for 9 months and still be able to meet their obligations? They don't mind throwing money out the window for war, any war, but not a dime for education or infrastructure in our own county.

Wonder if their thoughts and priorities would change if a bridge fell on then or if they complain at roads that ruin their cars with manhole sized potholes that are a hair away from being more like sinkholes?

It really is about "I've got mine and screw everyone and everything else" with them. They are not able to see connective tissue with a laser pointer and a magnifying glass.

13. A better question: why aren't the Democrats hammering this point home?
Let's hear the numbers side by side every time a Democrat appears on TV. $X amount for rebuilding America's infrastructure, $XXX amount for rebuilding the Iraqi infrastructure that we destroyed.
