A few months after Dr. Michael Kamrava helped Nadya Suleman become pregnant with octuplets, he transferred at least seven embryos to another patient.

She was in her late 40s and wanted just one baby.

Now she's five months pregnant with quadruplets and hospitalized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, according to several sources familiar with the situation.

The new case could add to concerns about Kamrava's practice and about whether the fertility industry needs more regulation.

---------------

The woman has three grown children from a previous marriage but wanted another child with her second husband, who is in his early 30s and doesn't have any children, sources said. She works as an apartment manager; her husband is a contractor.

She started fertility treatments seeking one baby, but after becoming pregnant with quadruplets, declined medical advice to reduce the number of fetuses, the sources said.

Kamrava could not be reached for comment and has declined previous interview requests. A woman who answered the phone at his West Coast IVF Clinic said: "If mother wants to bring four kids, so what?"

1. Mother Nature knows best
If a woman is unable to conceive for whatever reason - infertility, post-menopausal - that's how it is.

When Man starts dicking around (forgive me - it's just the proper word here) with the natural processes - and I am surprised that I even think this, but I do - there's gonna be trouble.

I don't hold with women getting all shot up with hormones that aren't being manufactured naturally by their own bodies. We've all seen the results of Hormone Replacement Therapy, which was always a crock.

If you're unable to conceive for medical reasons, not age, why can't people adopt? I'm weary of hearing about women who "wanted to experience childbirth." That's about the most selfish, self-involved reason to bring a child into the world that I can imagine.

And if you're that enamored of your own genes, I would suggest you get over yourself. We're all special.

You want to be a parent? There are so many children out there who need homes. No need to go to China to get the latest fashion accessory - a Chinese kid. There are lots of American kids waiting for parents.

This whole octuplets/quadruplets issue has stirred up a real shitstorm, and I think it's good. There's just a whole lot going wrong.

Just because the science and technology exist doesn't mean they have to utilized.

2. I read that article with my morning coffee, and it's clear this woman wanted ONE baby...
She and her husband probably put together the money for one or two rounds of treatment, knowing that they could afford that much, and could afford to bear and care for one child. Thanks to the mad scientist, they are now in quite a pickle.

This Kamrava geek should have his medical license yanked.

4. Oh, he's a beauty
I read about that woman, too. She has two grown kids, but her new husband is - if I recall correctly - something like 30 years of age. He's serving in Iraq right now.

A fifty-year-old woman really has no business having a baby. I left fifty behind a good time ago, but I know that the energy for raising a kid is not there at fifty. That's a good deal for a kid - having a seventy-year-old mother when you're twenty. :sarcasm:

Nature makes our bodies change for a damn good bunch of reasons.
