Palin disappoints her fans

If you were planning on going to this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (and I know you were), prepare to be disappointed: The star of the show won't be in attendance.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a darling of conservatives since her run for the vice-presidency, was supposed to be the headliner on Feb. 26, the first day of the conference. But Tuesday brought the news that she had decided to bow out, citing "duties of governing."

Since Palin did find time to travel to Washington recently for a comparatively lower-profile event, one less important to her future political ambitions, there is the question of why she was too busy for CPAC and not the previous commitment. The state legislature is in session, so that could be one reason, but it may also have something to do with the recent resignation of Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg, a Palin appointee. He'd come under fire recently for having tried to squash subpoenas issued during the legislature's "Troopergate" investigation.

"It is a harsh political environment right now. You saw what he went through these last couple of weeks with speculation that a couple of the lawmakers wanted to continue to grill him, a couple of the lawmakers not believing, it seems, what he had to say," Palin told the Anchorage Daily News. "I just hope this political environment doesn't deter others who want to make a positive difference."

Meanwhile, don't feel too bad for CPAC attendees: Rush Limbaugh is still scheduled to be the final speaker of the convention, and to receive its "Defender of the Constitution Award." Plus, Palin will be sending a video message.

1. Hot women avoid nerds.
And say what you will about her politics - she is hot.

And they are nerds.

3. I can't, I really can't...
...I'm certainly not the most liberated male on DU, but I really do want it all.

And what Sarah Palin has on the inside makes me lose all interest on whatever she might have on the outside.

14. Really? What else could you ignore?
Her state of inebriation? Whether she was conscious? Whether she said "No"? Her screams of protest?

Funny thing about that. After all, those are things "inside her" too. I'm always quite perplexed at the seemingly libidinous fellow that expresses such attraction to the superficial physical attributes of a female that "what's inside" doesn't seem to matter. While I am a lot older now, I can't recall a single time in my life when "what's inside" didn't matter the most. Not once.

But I don't comprehend rapists, either.

4. If she has any interest in 2012...
...she's smart enough to know that the dust hasn't settled from George W. Bush yet. She's a narcissist, she'd LOVE to be in the spotlight, but she knows the timing is wrong.

The freeps are spinning this to say that "she needs to be there for the volcano."

Fuck the volcano. She's not going because people who can't make their mortgage payments and put food on the table still blame Bush.

10. Plus people here are watching her really closely right now.
She's been on some thin ice. I've got a bunch of stuff posted in the Alaska forum/my journal about what's going on here ... never a dull moment.

13. Keep it up! Woo-hoo! The Dems and other sane folk of AK will make
sure "that one" is never heaved on us again.

From the looks of this, maybe she is running the least bit scared....as much as her hubris and arrogance would allow her anyway....

And, as always, good luck to you as long as you have to have her in the Guv Mansion.

Good work! Keep up the pressure!! :fistbump: :patriot:

18. Thanks for doing this Blue.
If only the lawmakers of Alaska would pay as much attention to the people trying to live up there.

Sad state of affairs, these games of politics.

12. Sarah Palin has duties?
I'm sure that will come as a bit of a surprise to the people of Alaska.

Strange, isn't it, that the GOP's risingest star doesn't want to be seen with the Voice of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh? You'd think the two of them would leap at the chance to combine their star power into some kind of political supernova. Or something.

15. Oh gawd tell me she's not getting ready to switch parties
You know she already snubbed the GOP once a couple of weeks ago and opted to go hob nob with the terrorist president at the Alfalfa club instead. Now she's snubbing Rush Limbaugh who is in love with her and citing the same lies she told the Congressional GOPers about not being able to attend their little shindig...that she was busy working in her state.
