My call to Sen. Jim Inhofe's office
<Snip - this is the meat of the call>

ME: Also, I'd like to express my disapproval of Sen. Inhofe's vote against the stimulus bill. Considering how bad the economy is right now, why would anyone risk delaying something that could possibly help?

STAFFER: Sen. Inhofe believes there is too much wasteful spending in that bill. Tax cuts would do more to stimulate the economy and not add so much to the deficit.

ME: We've had 8 years of tax cuts, and they haven't worked. If they did, we wouldn't be in this mess that we're in right now, would we?

STAFFER: Things would likely be much worse without those tax cuts.

ME: The experts don't agree with that statement, and considering we've lost jobs by the millions, people are losing their homes, and companies everywhere are laying people off, I would say that's overwhelming proof that the Bush tax cuts, which Sen. Inhofe supported, haven't worked.

And if Sen. Inhofe is so concerned about the deficit, why did he support deficit spending time after time for the war in Iraq?

STAFFER: Fighting the war on terror has been effective in keeping America safe from another terrorist attack.

ME: Because the Bush Administration ignored warnings and failed to protect us on 9/11...

STAFFER: Several other attacks on American soil have been stopped because of the fight against terror...

ME: Those have been debunked repeatedly. I don't know where you're getting your information, but none of those so-called attacks had much credibility.

Let me ask you another question. If Sen. Inhofe is so concerned about the deficit and how much money we're spending, I'd like to know what actions he's taken to determine what happened to the billions send over to Iraq that are unaccounted for. It's been widely reported that there's been rampant waste and a lack of oversight on funds sent to Iraq to rebuild. What is he doing to recover that money?

STAFFER: I'm not aware of anything specific at this point...

ME: That would seem to be a worthwhile focus for someone who's so concerned about not wasting taxpayer money...

STAFFER: I agree it would.

ME: Please let Sen. Inhofe know that he is not doing a good job representing my interests in Congress, nor is he doing a good job representing the interests of the majority of Americans right now. He seems very out of step with what is going on in the real world.

I suggest that he seriously consider retiring, he seems to be completely unaware of what Americans need, Oklahomans in particular, and I'm tired of not having adequate representation in Congress. I deserve better than Jim Inhofe.

STAFFER: I'll pass that message along to him.

2. Well done - admirable restraint
Not being a ranting hysteric did make the staffer agree to at least one of your points - that was great. :applause: :patriot:

3. Thanks for trying.
I have a similar situation: my congressman is Darrell Issa (R-Hopeless-Tool-of-the-Corporatist-Oligarchy). I have one senator that's great: Barbara Boxer. The other is the DINO Supremo, DiFi.

4. Nice.
I have a family member that used to work on that cretin's staff until recently. You said everything I wanted to say to her for 6 years but was unable due to her fragile nature and our agreement not to discuss politics. I loathe that man and his cohort, the insane Sen. Coburn. I'm glad you let his staff know how unhappy you are with his representation.
Good work!

5. I hate calling my Senators.
What a joy...take your pick: Inhofe or Coburn.

And in the House: John Sullivan. :puke:

I know it doesn't do any good, I only hope they keep a tally of negative vs. positive calls, and I hope the trend is that the negative calls are growing more than the positive ones. At least they'll know the writing is on the wall.

7. They'll log your call as a positive one
For example, you said:

Please let Sen.

The flunky on the other end of the line heard: "Please let Sen. Inhofe know that he is . . . doing a good job representing my interests in Congress, . . . doing a good job representing the interests of the majority of Americans right now. . . .

I suggest . . . he seems to be completely . . . aware of what Americans need, Oklahomans in particular, and . . . I deserve . . . Jim Inhofe."

6. Your call was a thing of beauty. I especially like the last line,
that you deserve better. Now . . . the real question is . . . how much money would it take for a person to go to work for Jim Inhofe. Maybe the staffers are relatives.
