Why do Republicans insist on appearing illiterate?
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 03:54 PM by The Doctor.
I can't take how these dumb asses stand there at their podium and tell all of America that they're willing to sound like illiterate morons just to slight Democrats.

They keep saying "The Democrat Congress".

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHH!!!!

"Democrat" is a noun, the adjective is "Democratic"!!

And yes, I've talked to idiots who say, "Well, everyone says just 'Republican' whether they mean a guy or a party", and then had to explain to them; ""Republican" is both a noun and an adjective."

This dumbing down of America has to stop. It's driving the bright folks crazy.

1. These days, the Know-Nothings are ascendant in the GOP.
There's lots of factions - there are the fundies, there are the mormons, there are the neo-cons, there are the fiscal-conservatives, and there's the Know-Nothings, the Sarah Palin/Joe The Plumber wing of the party.

Anti-intellectualism, willful ignorance and nativism is the modus operandi for these assclowns.

2. Ignorance is a conservative value
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 03:57 PM by BOSSHOG
While I don't think its an "appearance," if they react truly stupid in public they are stimulating their base which has absolutely no use for evil education. They continue to be a hardy burden for the rest of us to bear.

3. Agreed...
Pardon the pun, but it is as if we have collectively moved from Oppenheimer ("I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.") to Ralph Wiggum ("I am become Dumb, destroyer of words.")!

I was shocked when my son's kindergarten teacher sent home a note last week thanking us for doing his homework with him and helping him prepare for the sight words test...turns out that only 16 of the 50 parents in that class bothered to even do that much...I know our education system needs more priority and more funding and better facilities, but for the love of Christ, can't we get ONE DAY of amnesty so that I can LEGALLY go to the homes of the non-participatory parents and kick them really hard in the shin?!?!??!

The truly sad thing is that I bet you in a random sampling of 100 people, more than 50 would have no idea who Oppenheimer was and almost as many would actually know who Ralph Wiggum is!

Me fail English? That's unpossible...

4. Moos, just to make your despair even greater:
In Philadelphia public schools over 30% of the students don't bother to show up EVERY DAY! There was a series of meetings with parent groups and parents walked out rather than take responsibility for their kids school attendance.

Maybe I should have written "even more greater"....

5. Some years ago, while working at a restaurant, I asked a few of the
recent high school grads a few questions.

Out of 7, only one got all of the three questions correct;

- What is the primary component element of the sun?

- Why does it rain?

- If a train traveling 100 miles only makes it 40 miles, what percentage of it's journey is left for it to travel?

2 got 2 of them right, and 3 had no idea.

Wow... just wow.

And it's getting worse.

8. You'd better watch it.
"Kindergarten teacher"? "Sight words test"? "Education system"?

So many nouns, so many things that just aren't formally adjectives. Enough to make a person weep crocodilious tears. Esp. the last one, where we do have a fitting adjective--"educational." Otherwise you'd have to conclude, against all logic and intuition, that we speak a Germanic language.

Oh. Wait. We do.

As I heard today, truly a "back-up-against-the-wall situation."

7. Children picking their noses and trying to wipe it on me bothers me.
I guess the conclusion is that they are all adult children.

18. They do it to disparage our party.
They don't want to seem like they are describing our party as "democratic", when they are naming it as "Democratic".

And, FYI, I'm pretty sure the GOP is actually the "Republic" party.

;)

19. It is a petty, small minded, but very intentional insult
They know it bothers us. That's why they do it.

And it is either said "DIM-o-crat" party or "dem-oc-RAT" party.
