Where's Randi Rhodes?!?
Nancy Skinner is a very intelligent and thoughtful person but she's not near as well versed as Randi.

I miss Randi Rhodes. :(

Anyone know what's going on?

1. Didn't he die in an airplane crash?
Ozzy made an album about him I think.

7. The people on her message board say it's technical.
But it's been a week so people posting there are incredulous.

Basically I don't know and they don't know.

9. I read that, but.........
it seems she could call in to Nancy to verify that this is the problem. I think it's something else.

5. The last couple of times this happened. The first time she was sued by
Blackwater. The second time she was fired over dissing Hillary in a nightclub routine. So maybe she is being sued for dissing someone. Could it be Al Franken? Now google hasn't resulted in anything remotely resembling this except a post on her website message board (not from her) that Nova Radio and she are working out technological problems between them and her station in Florida. It seems she could post something on her website though that wasn't second hand.

8. Sincere thanks Cleita.
I'm going to switch away from NovaM and listen (again!) to Thom Harmann at WCPT because I just can't handle Nancy Skinner. She's very intelligent and nice, but not all that informative nor entertaining.

11. She wasn't fired.
I wish people would stop spreading that around. That's not what happened. She didn't get fired, she quit. This has been explained in great detail many times.

14. Oh puleeze she has remarked herself that she was fired using exactly that word.
They couldn't fire her because of her contract, technically, but they wouldn't let her on the air either. She had to quit to get out of the contract so she could go on the air for some other outlet. We all know about those kind of resignings that are really firings.

I'll take Randi every time. You believe what you want.

And... for the record... she won that lawsuit.

12. No one, including Nancy, seems to know what's going on for sure
Nancy has been getting very short notice about doing the show, so hasn't had much time to prepare or book guests. It does, however, sound like she knows she'll be on again tomorrow -- she's booked the porn star who's been drafted to run against Vitter. Should be entertaining.

Nancy really does a good job -- she and Randi have very different personalities and approaches, but they're both good in their own ways. I know it's hard to switch gears when you expect one person and get another, but give her a chance. She really does know her stuff and when she had her own show here in Detroit she was great.

17. I'll stick to Thom Hartmann for now.
Having "a porn star" on radio does not fit save for my other FAV show, Stephanie Miller. :loveya:

Can't they rotate hosts? Nancy Skinner was ok for a couple of days but please - not all week?

13. I'm suspecting financial issues.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 03:39 PM by backscatter712
Could Randi be in a financial or contract dispute with Nova-M?

Or worse, could Nova-M be out of money and having trouble paying Randi?

If it was a mere technical issue, they would have dealt with it one way or another, either by renting a new studio, or flying Randi somewhere where she can go on the air, or who knows what. That and I suspect if it was mere technical problems, they wouldn't be so hush-hush about it.

This does not look good.

16. Contract dispute sounds feasible, more feasible than technological problems
that have lasted this long. My mouse poor local station has technological problems all the time, yet they manage to be up and running within twenty-four hours, the longest they were ever off the air. One time they even streamed on dial-up. It was hilarious because it kept timing out, but at least they tried.

She's got boatloads of talent in terms of talk radio, but she lets her own personality and ego ruin everything for her.

19. I haven't listened to Randi since she blew up that story about being attacked
Then her un-comedy skit which was tasteless about Hillary.

Usually if it's a tech issue Nova M would post it as such. All I know is suddenly Farias was gone right after Randi got on then they has two stations 1480 and 1090 then suddenly 1480 was out and it took weeks to get the bugs out of the switch to 1090 but that seems to be fine now.

It seems a few progressive radio shows have gone in the last month DC and FL. So maybe she is in need of a broadcast setup or Nova M is having money issues. Usually when you hear nothing it's not good.

29. The Stand Up Comedy Defense Would Be A Good One, If Only
it were true.

Oh I know she claims to be one and on her Wikipedia page there is a mention about her injecting comedy into her "radio show" - but wouldn't that mean that all radio hosts who play funny cuts of music and who say funny things are comedians too?

The only comedians I know who have done radio are Al Franken, Dennis Miller, Richard Belzer and a few others. With the exception of Franken, the others have hit the comedy club circuit more than once.

Remember when Ann Coulter called then Presidential Candidate John Edwards a "faggot,", or when she called Vice President Gore "a total fag" and then said she was only kidding? Randi went nuts, calling the Edwards comment "stunning," "disgusting," and "unbelievable," and saying, "I have never seen a bunch of Neanderthals like this, gathered in one place, applauding. Sick people."

All Randi did was to backtrack from her employer-sponsored comments by referring to them as "stand-up comedy. :hi:

27. i got this email from nova m
Nova M continues its efforts to rectify the technical problems that have caused an interruption in Randi's ability to broadcast THE RANDI RHODES SHOW. Randi has made every effort to assist Nova M in order that the show can be returned to the air immediately. However, despite her daily concern and intervention, there is nothing more that Randi and her team can do. We truly regret the inconvenience resulting from this situation, and hope to have it solved without further delay.

Thank you for your continued support.

- Randi Rhodes and Anita Drobny

This has always been her "Ground Zero" since the 2000 fiasco. Perhaps she's protecting and thinking of us locals?

24. If you want to be bored to death.
After Randi went to Nova Radio, my local AAR affiliate kept Ron Kuby on for months, but yawn, they finally brought back Randi because no one was listening to them and they were streaming Randi instead.
