Grab Your Torch ‘n Pitchforks! At-risk homeowners storm mansions of mortgage CEOs
Hundreds of people trying to save their homes from foreclosure flocked to Connecticut's wealthy Gold Coast this weekend to give financial kingpins a piece of their mind.
Homeowners are fed up – and many are frustrated that those who lead the companies that gave them their subprime mortgages live in luxury while they struggle so hard to meet their loan payments and not fall behind.

On Sunday, hundreds of angry homeowners and volunteers traveled in vans and minibuses and protested outside Morgan Stanley CEO John Mack’s multi-million-dollar mansion to tell the wealthy finance czar how they really feel.

The group, led by Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA), also went to Greenwich Finance CEO William Frey, among others, as part of what NACA calls the “Predator’s Tour.”
Sporting bright yellow shirts that read, “Stop Loan Sharks,'' protestors demanded more accountability from the CEOs of the financial institutions responsible for the millions of unaffordable mortgages in the state and across America.

"We can’t let them live quietly in a lap of luxury while they throw hard working Americans out on the street," NACA explains on its Web site. "This action is within our legal rights as Americans to peacefully protest and meet with those who control our family’s livelihood."

Floyd's best song post Roger Waters, IMHO. Even though the song actually describes Gilmour's thoughts on flying, for which he has a passion, it just seemed to fit.

Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i

21. I agree. I actually saw a concert in that tour. It was awesome.
They had a huge screen behind them where they showed videos to their music, the Dogs of War video was effectively burned into my brain even though the song itself isn't that great IMO.
I also really like On the Turning Away.

And now your username not only took on a trip down memory lane it is also going to make me find an old cd and listen to it again. Cool, and thanks!

22. Most of the guards ARE us
I know lots of people who work at guards at gated communities. They're just folks like you and me, making a few bucks. They're not going to risk their lives for the fat cats.

We have a lot of gated communities around here -- some, mostly private homes, do come with armed guards, but they're in a significant minority. Most guards are young folks who can't find any other jobs -- or retired people who are trying to make ends meet. They are unarmed -- and just as pissed off as the rest of us. They thought they'd be retired and living the good life now -- not working a guard gate for $8 an hour. They are not Blackwater.

We have one with Secret Service protection, but I think that's down to a single guy now.

25. I fear a some of the guards have personality traits not unlike the Brown-shirt Thugs of the 30s
Sadly, some are in it for the illusion of power. We all know of cops who have the same bent.

Not all guards and law enforcement, but the carrot of illusionary power over others always acts as bait for flunkies the powerful can persuade to do their bidding. Seems like the bush/cheney years brought an increase in such tendencies.

56. Guards?
What about the maids, nannies, gardeners, landscapers, dog trainers, pet-sitters, etc? They think they live in gated communities safe from the riff-raff, but they wouldn't be able to enjoy their quality of life without letting at least some of said riff-raff into the house and grounds.

107. Seriously, don't even need to think about mutiny.
I always think about how conservatives are all like, "Healthcare is a privilege, not a right." But when looking at the working class folks who take care of them, all that would really have to happen would be for an epidemic to break out before they finally understood that membership in gated communities doesn't have that much privilege after all.

18. Chilling, short and to the point.
The result of breaking the civil contract ain't pretty yet somehow it is periodically forgotten.

FYI googled and found this "In 1916, hobo and Wobblies agitator Harry Kirby McLintoc(sp?) predicted in his "Hymn of Hate": "And The Day shall come, with a red, red dawn;/ And you in your gilded halls,/ Shall taste the wrath and vengeance of the men in overalls." from an unnecessarily nasty new yorker mag article which I won't link.

and he may've also been a singer songwriter under the pseudonym Haywire Mac if it's the same guy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_McClintock

103. Another Depression era poet, Markham's "Man With the Hoe" - last stanza
last stanza:

O masters, lords and rulers in all lands,
How will the Future reckon with this Man?
How answer his brute question in that hour
When whirlwinds of rebellion shake the world?
How will it be with kingdoms and with kings--
With those who shaped him to the thing he is--
When this dumb Terror shall reply to God,
After the silence of the centuries?

It's just a matter of time folks. Where that *ugly* threshhold gets crossed, and there's no turning back. I hope it doesn't get that far, but I DAMN well hope we can find some way of getting rid of these crooks in power now so that we can avoid this march to hell...

My elderly (and very liberal) mother always told me that taxation of the rich to offset some of the income discrepancy between the classes was the "price of a civilized society." In her words, taxation and other balancing policies are the best way to "keep the mobs from storming the gates."

The storming of the gates has begun.

48. Why it failed: nobody died.
It would be pitiable if one of the mob was killed. But it would have been sensational and rallying if one of the rich bastards was murdered. Double score if it was caught on camera.

You wimps may think this deserves a dripping sarcasm icon (I can't afford to buy one), but as anyone who watches the news knows, nothing happens until you see somebody being killed. Ask Rodney King.

50. It is almost time to eat the rich!!
The meat of the rich can be tough and a bit gamey. I would first start with the meat from the rump, thighs and calfs. If they play tennis or jog the meat can be tough, So take the meat and burry it in salt to draw out the blood. Next soak it in a milk bath for about a day. The acids in the milk break down the fiber of the meat to make it more tender. I am recommending using it in a stew. The vegetables infuse beautifully with the meat of a banker. Start with 1 large whole onion. Caramelize onion in the bottom of a large soup pot with a half a stick of butter. Add 4 Large sliced carrots and 3 stalks of sliced celery 4 large baking potatoes cut up in chunks. 4 cups of beef broth. Bring to a boil and fast simmer until Veggies are soft. Add another 4 cups of broth and a pound of the prepared banker cubed. Bring to a slow boil for about 40 minutes. If you like you can add a few cups of red wine at this time. (hopefully it is wine you stole from his reserves when you took him.) Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add 3 tbl. spoons of flour. stir thoroughly. Serve over rice. :toast: :toast:

62. The young ones can be very tender and tasty too.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-09 06:17 PM by Greyhound
I prefer them thinly sliced and then quickly sauteed in a nice garlic butter sauce.

One warning though, watch out for the implants, they can show up in game normally thought to be too young in other cases, and if you fail to notice and pierce the membrane it can ruin much of your meat.

87. In the American Revolution we burnt down the houses of the royal tax collectors.
I'm not advocating anything like that. I'm just pointing out the historical parallel. Just sayin' we burnt down a lot of houses. I mean the revolutionaries did. I mean the founding fathers. You know.

90. When push Comes To Shove
All you Wall Street bloodsuckers
Thinking you're so swell
Though you've made us nothing to eat
Nothing to wear, nothing to sell
Go tell the hungry it's your superior destiny
That allows you diamond buttons on your coat
I dare say you'll gurgle a different tune
When they slit your throat

Chorus:
When good turns to evil
And push comes to shove
We must save the world
With an act of love

105. Normally I would have said "Many of these people are/were part of the problem."
In the past my attitude would have been that many of the people who bought homes took on far too much debt, and should have been more responsible and not purchased a home that they could not afford. But after what I heard and saw on TV last night, as well as over the past few months my attitude has changed. I apologize to those that I have said were part of the problem. A great many of you were not.
