1. I have heard people throwing wobblers...
That makes that sound like Bale was reciting Lewis Caroll. He wasn't even in the same universe as Steve Marriott on an average day.

BFD, all in all.

I don't think he's much of an actor.

I have never been able to see him as anything else other than a psycho. Specifically, pointing to himself in a mirror while he's slapping his doodads

31. what a flick
Patrick Bateman: Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

4. Nope. He's human. And the full context of the tirade is not there.
The public, however, is judgmental. It makes people feel better about their own failings.

Unfortunately, that is human nature.

The hypocrisy is galling, but needs to be called out for what it is.

He addressed it on some radio station and I'm giving him another chance because he admitted to acting like a jerk, apologized for it, said that he deserved all of the mocking, and said he and the lighting dude cleared the air the same day it happened and actually worked with each other just last month. His explanation actually made perfect sense for why things went down the way they did.

Apparently all is well, which makes me happy because I love Christian Bale and was a bit disgusted by his little rant, although the dance mix that was made out of it is hysterical. He owned up to his mistake and made amends and I respect that.

57. He was walking around on the set.
Was supposedly going to adjust lighting, too.

Not what you'd want going on while you're trying to shoot a scene.

I would venture a guess and say this wasn't the first time something like this happened to Bale while he was working and got distracted by Hurlbut, and it was building up from there.

Patrick Bateman: Did you know that Whitney Houston's debut LP, called simply Whitney Houston had 4 number one singles on it? Did you know that, Christie?
Elizabeth: You actually listen to Whitney Houston? You own a Whitney Houston CD? More than one?
Patrick Bateman: It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 04:28 AM by Drunken Girlfriend
Yes,I sorta do think less of Christian Bale.

I understand that people lose their cool sometimes,
but there is no excuse to verbally abuse someone/threaten them,
especially a co-worker.

And this tirade of Christian Bale's went on for quite a few minutes apparently, and only part of the tape was leaked.

Christian Bale should just be lucky to have a career,as it's only been the last couple of yrs that he has been able to resurrect it.

Just because you are a celebrity, doesn't mean you should be able
to be abusive with people.

33. Yep. As mostly avoid MSM, no idea who he is ...
... or what he was whining and cursing about.

Nor do I care in the slightest.

The underlying belief though - that those who are famous or in positions of power are somehow different from the rest of us hoi polloi - is a childish and destructive one. That is why expecting our politicians to be god-like (or, at least, saintly) we wind up with so many devils.

People are people. Everyone sits on the pot with diarrhea sometime, but that does not define them as a person. It is possible to be a good senator (or other actor) and an impossible spouse, parent, or child.

This guy is apparently a movie actor. Considered as an actor, his actions off-screen are irrelevant to his ability. As a person I expect that he is fairly screwed up: I think that anyone who would spend his or her life pretending to be other people - rather than actually doing something with their own life - is likely to be.

49. I'm surprised that so many people don't ever watch movies
I'm saddened by the people who think less of Bale, especially since he's apologized up one side and down the other. He even said "I acted like a punk." Now, who says that? Did Bush ever apologize for one single thing he did? Bale was never physically abusive, he was going through a rocky divorce from a woman he adored, and a family flareup with his estranged mother and sister, and he'd lost his good friend Heath Ledger just a few months before. The DP walked into Bale's line of sight in the middle of filming an intense scene, and it wasn't the first time he'd done that. He'd been warned about it before. None of that excuses Bale. He acted like a punk, was totally in the wrong, but he apologized immediately, and now, months later, he's apologized again. Give him a break. He's not a self-destructive alcoholic junkie or party boy, he's just an intense actor going through a bad time and was a momentary dumbass.

I'm even more surprised that so many have never even heard of Bale. I'm a huge movie buff, see at least 150 in the theater every year, so I suppose I'm more tuned in, but he's been in some big movies. His first role was the lead in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun at age 12. He's grown up in the business and has been in numerous small indie films, like Velvet Goldmine, American Psycho and Rescue Dawn, but he's also the new Batman, in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And now he's the new John Connor in a reboot of the Terminator series.

He's a really good actor, seriously. People who say he's not probably haven't seen much of what he's done.

I'd still like to know who leaked the tape, so many months after it was made. I do love that remix by RevoLution. I hope Bale's heard it.
