1. Both Pelosi and Reid have shown their abilities quite well.
They made excellent White House door mats for Bush and Cheney to wipe the dog shit off their shoes on.

Really, it's what Pelosi and Reid do best. :eyes:

13. A very good point. Except for one thing, NO ONE on DU is in the majority in any way.
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 06:16 PM by tom_paine
DUers, in most ages and nations, usually don't grow old. We are blown up, beaten, or falsely imprisoned in places like Robben Island and Karagranda.

America, with our newfangled Inverted Totalitarianism, doesn't play that. As the original Tom Paine said, "The cunning of the fox is as murderous as the violence of the wolf."

But I digress. It is always a unique experience being in the majority sometimes here at DU, even though there is no place in our National Dialogue for the point of view of people like me and probably you, who predicted pre-9/11 2001 that Bush would leave us with $10,000,000,000,000 in debt if he got 8 years or predicted IN Sept. 2002 that torture would swiftly return to Iraq after our invasion or other prescient stuff like that.

Majority? Don't make me LAUGH! So, while you make an interesting point, it is simply not relevant here, because even the "majority" at DU, comprised of some of the furthest-thinking people in the nation, each of us with track records 100 times better than the most "brilliant" bloviating Cable Infoganda M$M Pundit, is the tiniest of minorities.

Primarily because of the destruction of critical thinking in our nation, many DUers are like one-eyed people in the Kingdom of the Blind.

This does not make us better than anyone else. Far from it, it marks us for possible suffering or death if people get tired, cold, and hungry enough and the Hannities offer them a scapegoat. It is also a skill,an individual strength, no better or different in it's own way than weightlifting makes someone indisputably stronger for doing it.

Anyway, that's a lot of gab to say, being in the majority on DU is NOT EVER being in the actual majority. Just like seeing Hitler for what he was in 1933 didn't put one in any majorities in Germany, but in the tiniest of fringe lunatic minorities.

Like being on DU.

I'm all out of patience and politeness. Sorry if I am too frank for you, but it's way too late to pull punches and be politely politically correct. Way too late for "dry powder", too.

Majority.

I always enjoy your thoughtful posts, even when I don't agree 100% with them.

You are one of the deep thinkers here.

I think DU is a fairly good microcosm of Democratic thinking. The views here are much broader than they are at, say, the Freeper site.

That's just IMO.

I do admire your posts.

Best

You always get me thinking.

I appreciate that.

:loveya:

My father once wanted to write an editorial for DU and sign it "Tom Paine" and I had to explain to him there was already someone here with that name.

7. Imagine Boxer or Feingold for Senate leader - Kucinich, Conyers or Waxman for congressional instead!

24. Think of what you would be doing to them.
The reason you suggest them is that they are some of the people who have been willing to take the lonely stands. To use just one example, let's take Feingold. As an individual Senator, he could stand and make protest votes - such as on the Patriot Act or voting against Obama's choice, Geitner. As ML, he really could not lead all Democrats to do that.

The role of having to find a compromise that will pass is the antithesis of what they are valued for. We need the prophets speaking truth in the wilderness as much as we need leaders. It is extremely hard to try to be both.

10. Neither. I don't fall for the GOP-controlled media's claims about our leaders.
I thought Al Gore would have made a good president despite what the prevailing post-election echo chamber was pooh-poohing.

I thought John Kerry would have made a good president despite what the prevailing post-election echo chamber was pooh-poohing.

Pelosi and Reid make mistakes like anyone will in that position.

That the GOP have targeted them only means they must be doing something right.

Not at all.

Pukes are like schoolyard bullies. They will continue to attack until the victim sticks up for him/herself.

Reid and Pelosi are fucking wimps. The pukes will never give them a break.

Fuck 'em.

Keep Pelosi and Reid where they're at; we don't take direction from the GOP.

If they want different leadership, they can try to get elected.
