Issue with TurboTax
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 04:54 PM by WillieW
I have prepared my taxes with them for years and never had a problem. This year, I am having a lot of problems with them. My ex finished his return, but used my email address because he does not have microsoft. We filed as single. But now his name and mine are intermingled and both incomes are counted as mine. I have attempted to use different email addresses and different softwares such as "TaxCut" "HR Block", etc. with the same results. I am preparing my taxes on the same computer. Is my computer being tracked? Can anyone enlighten ne?

1. Get yourself a Yahoo email account and use that.
You may have to start over. I'm assuming you're using the online Turbo Tax, right?

Just start over with a different email address.

6. Well all I can say is....TacAct cost 20.00
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 05:12 PM by notadmblnd
buy the deluxe edition (it includes the state plus the federal filing is free (plus you can deduct the cost of the program from your taxes). This will allow you to start from scratch, and have it right. I've never used the free online editions of any of these programs. Still I would give their support a call and see if they can tell you how to resolve it.

3. you probably have backups of yur past returns on your hard drive
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 04:58 PM by notadmblnd
do not import your previous years information if this is the first year you are filing single. start a new return from scratch.

I use TaxAct and have for years. I use my e mail address for several of the peoples return I file and have never had this problem.

did you buy the program or are you using the free online version? Thye should have a help number. Give them a call, they'll answer your questions.

5. Cleaning the hard drive is very important because the 2008
version of Turbotax will look for the old data. I have always been leary of any software being able to remove the old program.

7. I use the online version
just today and it was really buggy. In fact, I had to create a new account and start fresh in order to get all the deductions I knew I could have because the online version just would not give me the screen to enter those deductions.

If you are using the PC version then it's probably Intuit's software blocking access to any other program. You may have to rip it off your hard drive.

10. I do mine with pencil & paper, including sched C, 1040, business use of home
and more. voila! no bugs! no problems! and it really does not take that long. I did a rough draft a couple of months ago and will just plug in the up-to-date figures as soon as I get my 1099s and other paperwork.

I used TaxAct a few years ago but found I prefer to do it manually, which gives me complete control.

11. My issue with them
was that no matter how many times I tried, the "free" version was not available.

13. Now see
that's how I finally got mine to work. I have always used the basic version online and did so as habit, but when I did the free version the questions it asked were more complete and I got all my deductions.

12. They charge more for using the online version than if you buy it at the store.
