Joy Johnson, charged in Durham satanic cult case

Durham, N.C. — The state Attorney General's Office has informally agreed to take over the criminal cases against two former Durham County Democratic Party officials charged with aiding crimes that authorities say were carried out by a satanic cult, prosecutors said.

Joy Johnson, 30, and Dianna Palmer, 44, were charged last year after a man and a woman told police they were beaten, shackled to beds, kept in dog cages and starved inside a home on Albany Street.

Johnson's husband, Joseph Scott Craig, 25, was charged with three counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of second-degree rape and second-degree forcible sex offense in the case.

Prosecutors have said the man and a woman met Craig through a shared interest in Satan worship, but that they never consented to physical abuse.

2. Christians need Satan (or a reasonable facsimile thereof)
Without Satan -- or another identifiable enemy -- Christianity doesn't make any sense.

This is why they have to keep reviving the myth of Satan and the idiotic urban legends about "satanic cults." Failing that, they have homosexuals to fall back on to scare the sheep into donating.

6. There are people who claim they are Satanists
but it's a way to get attention. I doubt that the country is rife with satanic cults, as the right-wingers claim. It's like the petty thieves who claim they're in the Mafia, but who would crap their pants if they came face to face with a real Mafia member.

3. "Satan worship" is not listed among the charges.
I don't get what you are trying to say. Should religions be held above the law?

7. Sounds like a couple who were into some of the sexual subcultures-

(a mix of wife-swapping and S/M kink) and hooked up with another couple who were just into wife-swapping.
The "Satanic Cult" argument was probably just a way to justify a lawsuit because the offended couple couldn't get over their personal hang-ups and wanted to punish someone. Or needed to justify to friends and relatives why they were caught in compromising activity because the secret slipped out - "Oh, we never wanted to do it, those nasty Satanists made us do it. They cast teh spell on us..."
Satanic Cult activity is a good way to punish someone in a highly Xtian area.
Just my observation.

9. I know a few people who are into those scenes -
Not that I'd do anything like that myself. I'm just minorly kinky, but hey, consenting adults and all that...
