ZOMBIES AHEAD
Hackers Crack Into Texas Road Sign, Warn of Zombies Ahead

Thursday, January 29, 2009
By Joshua Rhett Miller

Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."

Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.

"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."

"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

Yeah, it's Fox, but hey, isn't Fox like a bad horor flick any way?

6. Fucking awesome. BTW, am I the only one who secretly would love a zombie attack?
Waking up to sirens and the faint smell of burning flesh, only to look out your window and see your neighborhood in ruins and zombies chomping at your neighbor's body parts...it just seems so surreal and awesome.

I think it'd be fun.

But I'm also insane, so...

8. I think if they were like Dawn of the Dead zombies, it'd be pretty cool.
They're slow and stupid, so unless you're a total fool, you could keep it pretty much under control.

:D

9. Someone ALWAYS falls, and sprains their ankle
In every horror movie that involves slow moving, dangerous creatures, someone trips and gets eaten. Usually a woman. Who was monster hunting, wearing high heels. And, a suit or sun dress.

And then they lay on the ground screaming as the monster slowly gets closer.

12. That would make perfect sense
if the zombie actually was a vegetarian George Clooney look alike. I'd be waving flags and setting off flares.

20. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I don't know what it is, but I watch zombie movies and the whole atmosphere just seems awesome.

The other night I caught Diary of the Dead on cable and it was pretty sweet. Something like that could work well, because the zombies are slow and stupid. Plus, they survived by outsmarting the zombies. Get into a safe house, relax and for sport, pick off the dead as they get closer to you.

10. "We're having our engineers review this information."....
I followed the links in this thread and it turns out that holding down a few keys resets the password to the default password.

Not exactly my idea of "secure".
