Torture Lover John Yoo Excoriates Obama For Banning Torture»

John Yoo, infamous author of the Bush administration legal memos authorizing the use of torture on suspected terrorists, slams President Obama for banning torture in a Wall Street Journal op-ed today, gravely warning that Obama “may have opened the door to further terrorist acts on U.S. soil.”

Throughout the article, Yoo insists that torture is America’s most effective weapon against terrorists and warns that without it, the U.S. will be incapable of intelligence-gathering:

"Eliminating the Bush system will mean that we will get no more information from captured al Qaeda terrorists. Every prisoner will have the right to a lawyer (which they will surely demand), the right to remain silent, and the right to a speedy trial. <…>

"Relying on the civilian justice system not only robs us of the most effective intelligence tool to avert future attacks, it provides an opportunity for our enemies to obtain intelligence on us."

Considering the Bush administration repeatedly insisted its use of coercive techniques was “limited,” it would be a far stretch even for loyal Bushies to suggest that torture is not the one and only method to obtaining information. And as ThinkProgress has made clear again and again, numerous intelligence experts and real interrogators agree that, far from being “the most effective intelligence tool,” torture simply doesn’t work....http://thinkprogress.org/2009/01/29/yoo-obama-torture/

4. This is exactly what he and his buddies said when we learned about the torture.
They actually said that they did not want a typical jury hearing a case. Real reason, their might be darkers skin people on the jury listening to torture testimony and the law according to Rumsfeld, Cheney, Yoo and friends. And watch out if some on the jury followed Islam. They said it. I remember and wish I would have kept it.

Also, Yoo is practicing his defense right now and trying to influence everyone who might support the rule of law, but is bigoted just the same.

Pathetic to hear it all over again and hear that he is directing his remarks to Obama.

5. "further terrorist acts on U.S. soil." Yoo is a fear monger.
Yes, there will be further attacks acts on U.S. soil. I'm not saying that because I want more attacks acts on U.S. soil, but the future extends for a very long time and the U.S. is a big country with a lot of people and the Oklahoma City bombing was a terrorist act (attack) too.

So, technically, Yoo is correct: there will be further terrorist acts on U.S. soil. In fact there may even be a few terrorist attacks on U.S. soil--we just won't know when or who will be behind them--but, apparently Yoo (and his GOP brethren) want us to be paralyzed by fear.

I'd prefer to do it this way: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8143742&mesg_id=8143742

23. Exactly.
We can't insulate ourselves from poisons in our food, toxins in the air and water or stop all the violence; the only thing we can control is how we react to it all.

8. What's that sound I hear? Is it...neoconservatism?
Listening to neocons blabber on about how their methods work best must have been what it was like to sit and listen to the people who still clung to the notion of a flat earth, long after it was proven otherwise.

9. Dear Yoo. Torture was illegal when you wrote your memo. Even after you wrote
your memo torture was still illegal regardless of how you and the rest of the guilty tried to say otherwise. Regardless of how you or anyone else attempts to paint it - torture ("the Bush system") is illegal. A so-called legal memo can't erase that fact. Playing ignorant can't erase that fact.

21. John Yoo is the poster boy for the fascist right.
Active member of the Federalist Society.
Clerked for United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas
Clerked for U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Judge Laurence Silberman
Follows the philosophy of law articulated by Carl Schmitt, Nazi functionary.

He belongs in prison for the rest of his despicable Fascist life.

22. When a man proffers himself to the wrath of those who can prosecute him you have to ask why
Why on earth would John Yoo want to rile up the Obama Administration in any way at all? Is he trying to direct prosecutions at himself to protect those above him?

Nothing happens by accident. Nothing.
