What song do you wish Springsteen would play during the Super Bowl halftime?
But probably won't

I'd love to hear him do his version of Woody Guthrie's "I Ain't Got No Home".

It's one of my favorite vocal performances of his and I'd love to see how the crowd reacts to the lyric:

"The gambling man is rich and the working man is poor."

What about you?

1. "I'm sorry I can't sing tonight because I have Strep throat..."

Seriously - Bruce Springsteen is an amazing songwriter and singer - I just don't like his music.

Seems like a stand up guy though.

Same for Barbara Streisand

subthread: what songs do you predict he'll play.
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 03:42 PM by onenote
I'm guessing he'll do one song (probably the title cut) off of the new album or the Rising from his last album and then Born to Run. If he does three songs, its anyone's guess what the third would be. Rosalita is an outside shot -- he rarely does it, but this is a special occasion so he might.

PS -- I seem to know more people who are looking forward to Bruce's halftime show than are looking forward to the game itself!

10. This has to be a challenge for the Boss
When your average concert length is 3+ hours, how the Hell do you chop that down to 15 minutes??

I don't see him doing the acoustic stuff in this setting. He'll probably open with "Born In The USA", then do a song from the new album, and follow that up with "The Rising" and more than likely "Born to Run" as the closer.

That would be typical of the Super Bowl mini-set that is typically done. If he does something other than "the big hits", I'll be shocked, but in a good way.

13. F-- you Dubya, Right in the A--
Not really one of his songs, but I'll bet he could do it justice.

It's a composition of my own, with a variable melody and a slew of verses, but it usually ends with "Fuck you Dubya, right in the ass." Most enjoyable when I'm bicycle commuting.

17. "My Home Town"
Pretty much sums up the current misery.

"Now main streets whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
Theyre closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to
Your hometown......."

Though it would be funny if he just threw away the script and launched into something like "Candy's Room".

I think he wrote a new song. They briefly previewed it during the season.
