http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/smith/158Shirley Smith: Are We Becoming a 'Sick' Society?
Tell me that this is not the result of the Bush GOP Right Wing being given so much power. When I hear stories like this one, "Christianity" asserted by such a doctor is a stolen identity, and he should be prosecuted.
Tasha Childress, 24, said she took her daughter to Christian Medical Services with an ear infection last month but was turned away because she and husband Robert Childress, 26, have tattoos behind their ears.
Dr. Gary Alexander Merrill said the mother was told about the office's tattoo policy when she made the appointment.
"Our policies all reflect consideration for conservative clientele in a traditional atmosphere," he said.
Tasha Childress said she hopes Merrill changes his policy and has asked the Medical Board of California to investigate.
"I have never heard of any doctor mixing their religion with their practice," she said. "It's legal, but it shouldn't be." (snip) A doctor can deny treatment in nonemergency situations, though most physicians will refer a patient to another provider, said Dr. Jeff Freesemann, president of the Kern County Medical Society.
"If you go to some restaurant and it says jacket and tie, is that being prejudiced?" Freesemann asked. "They had a choice and knew what their parameters were." (my bold)
And, since when is a restaurant compared to treating the sick. A doctor would not treat a sick child because the child's parents had tattoos. Now, is this not becoming, under Bush GOP rule, a "sick society." You betcha!
Tattooed mom says doctor discriminated by not treating daughter
I wonder how long it will take Americans to understand that the way this Bush GOP treated the people in New Orleans and, Afghanistan, and Iraq ... we are all the same to them. Disposable.
