You realize that we are entering into an era of political thermonuclear war, right?
Edited on Wed Jan-28-09 08:25 PM by Stinky The Clown
During the Quixotic campaign of Sarah Palin and that old guy who ran with her, many of us were talking about repubics in terms of desperation and rats and snapping and cornered animals and a bunch of similar metaphors.

It is my view that we will be simply amazed at how tame those metaphors might have been. They have nothing to lose, really. And today's House vote ought to serve as the indicator of that.

Look back to 1992 for an indicator of the playbook they're using. Clinton had a budget. To a seat, every repubic voted against it. Every fucking one of them. And a few Democrats.

Two years later they had Congress. Including the ousting of our Senate Majority Leader. Four years later we had an impeachment over a blow job.

The specifics will be different this time, you can bet on that. But the essence of the plot is the same.

Today they voted a unanimous "no". Today, also, they ran the very first 2010 campaign ad ..... against our Senate Majority Leader.

Their chances of success, also in my own view, are far from certain. This time they're against a president who was actually elected by an actual majority of actual voters. That elected president has an approval on the far side of seventy percent while Congress has a rating in the twenties. Further, no matter how they spin it, The Shitstain On The Shortz of History is theirs. All theirs. And their seeming leader is a radio and teevee political clown with followers who self label as dittoheads.

But this **will** be messy. And it **will** be a hot war.

edit to fix what an initial edit would have fixed.

2. Someone, I wish I knew who it was, had a plausible theory in another thread
They said that it's possible that the House Republicans have all voted against this because they know they're going to get another hack at it after a conference committee. This way they can show how "serious" they are in an attempt to get more concessions, but still have some people vote for the final bill later on to save their hides. That makes sense to me.

3. After a (very) brief "feel good" post election lull... they are all
reverting to type. The "democrat party" is back in their vocabulary.. the obstruction is back full-blown and unbowed.

They are now the cornered badger and they will fight like one too.

4. It's going to be messy, but victory will be ours.
Not theirs. Their time is over.

5. What I will be looking for is
the Dems and the press letting them get away with it again, or even helping them. (again)

The whole thing has become a lather, rinse, repeat joke.

The waxy build up seems to be affecting our collective brains.

6. True, however...
In 1994, the Repubs were still frolicking in the wake of Reaganism. And they were pissed that a kid from Arkansas would unseat their King George. However, since then:

1) Reaganism has been shown to be a fraud;
2) King George II turned out to be a complete failure;
3) The Bushistas have been shown to be nothing more than neo-conmen;
4) The religiously insane were mocked by the very Repubs they voted for;
5) Wall Street, the banks and finance industries did a collective "fuck you" to the American people.
6) The rich kept getting richer and the poor poorer;
7) The GOP could not live up to their P.R. as the party of family values, personal responsibility, patriotism, etc.
etc. etc. etc.

But, that's not to say the Dems can relax. Even a dead, rabid dog is dangerous.

7. never underestimate the ability of the republick party
to run an effective PR campaign to pull the wool over the american peoples eyes.

they were very good in the 90's at getting their version of the story out in front of the public.

10. Obama pets rabid dog, dog then bites Obama. Remember the song "The Snake"?
"..you knew darn well I was a snake before you took me in." - Snake to tender woman who rescued it.

11. With respect to the Senate Majority leader- I might just have to agree with their goals
even while questioning their wisdom.

He's proven to have been (and remains) one of the very best players on their team.

13. And our Bailout Money is helping fund Republican senatorial campaigns!
The Republican party is now fully under the control of large corporate interests (as if we didn't know that before). They care about nothing more than that and re-election.

And to those Dems with some of these same traits... They may just find themselves out of office come 2010.

15. they will go for the emotional triggers that sneak beneath
the mind, turns out FAR too many people go with how they feel & not with what they think, & still people keep saying we should think less & feel more....
