Just kidding (that would really just apply to Dubya ;) ). Excluding him, past presidents all have quite a lot of experience and expertise they could offer the current president, so yeah, I can see now why they'd get the briefings.

Like, Jimmy Carter may have been president a long time ago, but he still has a lot of influence and public attention, so it'd be best for his opinions on, say, Gaza and Israel to be informed by the latest intelligence.
