Thom Hartmann just said, "rarely do I talk about my books on my show"!
What show is he listening to? If I played a drinking game in the morning (which I wouldn't) while I listened to his show, if I took a shot every time he said, "I wrote about.....", I'd be drunk by noon!!!

1. That's funny
I love Thom but he does spend a lot of time talking about himself.

2. Aww, c',mon
He's written like 20 books or so. If he chose to, he could spend his whole show talking about them. Which he doesn't.

4. I like him and listen to his show, BUT
he talks about his books incessantly. It just tickled my funny bone that he said he rarely talks about them. I wouldn't know about them if he didn't - I've certainly never seen one on the shelf at a bookstore.

3. Ouch!
Poor Thom is the best and hardest working talk show host out there. Cut him some slack. Sometimes I think he is very tired from lack of sleep and doing two radio shows a day and he babbles a little at times from fatigue, but only a little.

5. I like him!
But I have a sense of humor too - I thought it was hilarious that he said he rarely talked about his books.

27. I agree with you
I almost did a "spit take" when he said that. But, I do like Hartmann and somehow, maybe because he isn't screaming at me, I don't find his mentioning his books anywhere as obnoxious as Randi Rhodes endless self promotion.

I just found it humorous that in his mind he thinks he rarely mentions them.

6. I chuckled at that, too. In his defense, I think he's right that he doesn't
TALK about his books, as in devoting time to really discussing the content. He mentions them very very often, but he rarely talks about them at length.

that ends with this:

"Get screwed, by Thom Hartmann"

Cracks me up every time!

17. Thom's the best
I think his motivation for mentioning one of his books is to redirect people to get more info. which I don't have a problem with.

There's a caller most days asking where do I find out more info about subject X.

25. He's wrong. He mentions the title or the content or both - all the time.
I'm not unhappy that he does. I don't approve that he said rarely. He better make a correction fast to save credibiiity. I repeat, I'm fine with him talking about his books - I learn.

34. Love Thom, but he's delusional!
I can only stand so much of his show, because it is non stop marketing. More than I think he knows. He plays commercials for his commercials. He talks about his books all the bleeding time.
Once he said that if you listen to his show (a for profit enterprise) and do not buy from his advertizers, you are a 'freeloader'. Now, I had a big problem with that. The deal is thus: the listener hears the ad. That is the whole deal. His ads are for stockpiling gold, mail order imported organic wine, cat food and other things I simply don't buy.
I love when he plays tapes of FDR, and he knows lots of history. Some good guests. But he exhausts my consumer circuits, and I have really gotten out of the Thom habit, and never bother to stream him. Just boring to be sold things in so many obvious ways.

Ok, Ok. This was a whopper, but I'd still like to hear the context.

I'm still thinking that he probably was thinking... "...as much as my publisher tells me to!"
