This may be old at this hour, but ...
... while updating the Truthiness Encyclopedia page for Obama's Administration and our new White House staff (Truthy Tube), I noticed this:
James Braidy Steinberg, of Texas, to be Deputy Secretary of State, vice John D. Negroponte.

--White House

WTF!?

Negroponte still has a job!?

cabinent level position under Bush. Here is his career details.

It does seem a curious appointment.

I wonder what his field of responsibility will be.

I can't remember any other situation where somebody has gone from that high a cabinent position to take such a junior assitant secretary job.

good find.

I am guessing that he is going to be there a short time and is working on a particular transition question. He is 70 years old.

7. Teh stupid, still burning...
I guess he'll be incredibly busy, what with the commute from New Haven, and all.

http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2009/01/21/news/new_haven/doc497781d13455b740805323.txt

"NEW HAVEN — Yale University has appointed former Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte as a research fellow and lecturer in international affairs.

Negroponte will serve a three-year term beginning July 1 at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale.

The Yale graduate will teach courses in the undergraduate international studies major and the international relations master's degree program."

Oh the outrage.

15. Check post #2. I think that explains it.
It doesn't excuse it, but maybe that's why he's still there.

14. I've heard from people who live in San Francisco that there is a burgeoning freeper ...
... community in the Bay area.

I also understand that they can't get rid of him either, something to do with tenure.

16. I've heard that, too.............
I guess the backlash has begun. Baghdad-By-The-Bay, as Herb Caen used to call it, was too far left ever to remain that way.

Where do those people come from? Is there some kind of freeper hatching facility, I wonder?

9. Sounds like he's on his way out
Hopefully just transitional.

I think a letter writing and a campaign at Government change
will make it clear that he needs to go.
