A Simple Home Alarm for Emergencies...

Sometimes a spammy email actually hides a great idea.

Apologies to those who own older cars or no car at all, this isn't for everyone.

"This Tip comes from a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator:

PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT. Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr.'s Office, the check out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Why?

If you hear a noise outside your home or someone get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everyw here inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around... After a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that!

And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or prevent a sexual assault. Also for older folks, maybe carry when out walking or gardening in case you need help and the inside person couldn’t hear you. You can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.

P.S. It would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.

6. I believe my car

(and I think a lot of the newer cars) will stop sounding the alarm after a few minutes. No more Until the Battery Dies. Remember the story some years back about the guy who went out of the country on vacation and something set off his car alarm and his neighbors got to listen to it for about a week until the battery finally died?

But even two or three minutes of the car alarm sounding can alert everyone nearby.

If my neighbor's car goes off for more than a few minutes I and most of the folks around here would be finding out why - if only to shut it up.

However, during the day, IMHO this would be of limited use since most everyone is gone. Also, in case of an emergency serious enough to not be able to get to a phone and call 911 it's likely whoever bangs on the door to tell you to shut your car up will not be in time to help you anyway.

The best use of this technique would be to startle an intruder into leaving. They thrive on NOT attracting attention.

11. Kicked. What a great idea. Funny, my monitored alarm went off 15 min ago for no

apparent reason. The alarm co said it was the side door, but that and all other doors were locked.
So I think there may be a malfunction and I don't want to reset it til tomorrow, but I also want to go to sleep.
I'll go sleep with my car keys tonight.
