I saw a commerical on tv for this, and went to the website and ordered. The terms and conditions appeared on the second page. I didn't realize the writing at the bottom of the page had changed. I will be calling tomorrow. What a rip off!

14. But now they have a disclaimer on their site
And info on where you CAN get it for free. Plus, their commercials have a voice-over saying this comes with enrollment in another program. So they've made some improvements, at least, since the days when they ripped off people like my aunt....

6. Video Proffessor does the same bait and switch
Get one disk for free, but he sends out *3*, and charges 69 bucks PER each unordered disk, and you only have a set time frame to send it back. AND they put you on auto-send unless you tell them to STOP.

People need to STOP ordering from these bait and switch companies.

Don't wait for tomorrow!!

Call your credit card company and tell them what you told us. I think they can refuse the charges.

edit to add: I want to quit too. Don't give up on that.

10. Hypnosis worked for my uncle and my cousin
I wound up using Chantix which worked like a magic bullet for me and I had minimal side effects.

11. A set of steak knives?
Isn't that a clue that you're a naive sucker with no life?

I thought everyone had seen Glengarry Glen Ross.

12. Hate to admit it, but I got sucked into a similar deal.
I didn't realize it until I received a second shipment that I did not order...and it wasn't even the same product!!!!! I called the 800 number to cancel and for instructions to return the wrong product. I told them to credit my account and to never ever ship another product again. They credited my account, canceled my "membership" and, of all things, sent me the correct product for free. I advised the credit card company not to accept charges.

13. Watch out for "automatic renewals" for subscriptions and software.
Read the small print when buying software downloads and when subscribing to services online. I've run into a couple that did automatic renewals and it turned out that I did give them permission to do so when I signed up. I just hadn't read the small print. One immediately reversed the charge when I told them I didn't use their software, didn't like it, and certainly didn't want to renew my subscription. The other place would not reverse the renewal (it was for a research service). They said I had to cancel before my renewal date. I protested to my credit card company and they deleted the charge and I got myself unsubscribed from any future renewals.

After those experiences, I bought some software that had the auto renewal built into the small print. I contacted the company before buying and they told me there was no way to remove the auto renewal at the time of purchase, but I could call them back right after purchasing the software and they'd remove me from the auto renewal. That worked.

15. Make sure you keep track of every call and send any correspondence registered...
mail with signature required. Keep copies of everything. Dispute every additional charge. Consider canceling the card. No matter what you they will probably charge you for at least 3 months.

17. Scams abound
Never order anything off of the TV - they hit your credit card forever. Ditto over the telephone.
I got a call from a pest control firm, and ordered a one-time spray around house. They continued to show up and claimed I had a monthly (expensive) "contract" - I never signed anything.
I have at least a dozen friends and family members who have had to cancel credit cards to stop the thieves on infomercials from hitting up those cards.
Sometimes the only way to stop them is to cancel the credit card - what a hassle.
