Geithner is our new Treasury Secretary.
No surprise that he was confirmed. I still love looking at our Mr. President talking about it. Swearing him in now.

1. Its a shame it was such a rough confirmation vote
here's hoping that is quickly forgotten and he turns out to be as good a choice as I think he is.

2. It doesn't matter to you..
When your leaders don't follow laws and regulations that they expect you to follow?

3. Does it bother you...
That Geithner didn't really do anything significantly wrong, but here you are towing the Rush Limbaugh talking points?

4. one of two things happened:
1. He did something wrong. That is, he applied for reimubrsement for taxes that he knew he didn't pay.

or;

2. The tax code is too complicated for even the Secretary of the Treasury to follow.

If it's #2, then that can be mitigated if he wages the fight for the simplification of the tax code.

6. Or...
who ever prepared Geithner's taxes (you don't think he bothers to do it himself, do you?) didn't dot all the i's and cross all the t's.

Big fucking deal.

7. he did it himself using
turbo tax. He did not pay self employment taxes, yet he filled out the form claiming reimbursement for them from the IMF.

Either he willingly violated the law, or the tax code is too complicated for the Treasury Secretary to figure out.

If it's the second, then he ought to use his personal experience to lead the charge on tax simplification.

13. What gave me pause is that
he realized his mistake and paid them up, then continued not to pay them for a few years until he was caught.--I understand about getting confused the first time. I thought these were employee taxes though, not his own personal taxes. Maybe I'm hearing too many sources. I thought I heard about this on one of the radio shows on Nova-M-- Thom Hartmann I think-- and he is pretty savvy and smart.

5. I understand that he has paid his taxes
plus the interest and penalties. I would love to watch some of the people getting huffy about it go under the fucking microscope he just went under.

8. he paid them..
after getting caught.

If the tax code is too difficult for the treasury secretary to figure out, then he should fight to streamline in.

9. Perhaps Congress will streamline..
the tax code..but it works out really well for the party of 'permanent tax cuts' for the rich, so I doubt that's going to happen. I can feel for the guy, as we underpaid our taxes one year, although we did the returns ourselves. They contacted us about that year, and didn't mention any other years. I wonder if we got away with something?

10. well..
Assuming it is an honest mistake, (which I am not sure about)then I feel bad for him too. But, having done that, he is morally obligated to help the rest of us who suffer from dealing with the tax code.

11. I thought Congress legislated tax laws..
like all those tax-breaks the Republicans are insisting on..as well as the tax shelters and loop-holes that are written in the small print.

16. No. I think I'd rather 'we the people'...
have jobs to go to, schools to send our kids, affordable health care, roads and bridges that are safe. You know...that kind of stuff you won't miss until you don't have it any more. Which looks like it might be pretty soon. I hope you are so proud.

12. maybe he can get help from sarah palin???
Or maybe Cindy McCain? she didn't exactly pay her fair share last year.

That wasn't allowed to be an issue though.

Remember when Palin's tax returns were "amended" after McCain picked her? and yet, she had still failed to disclose oodles of gates?

Maybe people don't care -- cuz I know we never heard anything about that.
