What do Americans fear most about terrorism?

I just posted a healthy excerpt (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=8143742&mesg_id=8143742 ) from an essay I read many years ago about a reporter who was the victim of a violent crime.

The thing I remember vividly about the essay was a feeling of not being paralyzed with fear.

Now I'm wondering what is it that Americans fear about terrorism?

I think that's why a lot of people essentially lost their minds after 9/11.
