On Roe Vs. Wade Anniversary Rep. Pence Introduces Legislation To Strip Planned Parenthood Of Funding
U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech from the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives today, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Congressman Pence also will speak to thousands of pro-life Americans at the March for Life later today.
Today millions of Americansfrom the National Mall to prayer services in small town churcheswill mark the sad 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the worst Supreme Court decision since Dred Scott.
As most Americans know, it is simply morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. But it is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad.
Many Americans fail to recognize the largest abortion provider in America is also the largest recipient of federal taxpayer dollars through Title Xthis should not be.
Yesterday, with more than 60 cosponsors, I re-introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, a bill that would deny any federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America.
On this dark anniversary, let us rededicate ourselves to protecting the unborn and to protecting taxpayers on matters of conscience.
The arguments liberals always toss out in favor of public funding for Planned Parenthood is that the organization provides other female health services aside from abortions. And while that’s true, abortions are the reason why the organization exists.
But perhaps the best argument against public funding for Planned Parenthood is that the organization doesn’t seem to need it. According to the group’s last annual report should the organization taking in approximately $1 billion in revenue, and turning a $112 million profit. Whether you’re for abortion or against, simply from the standpoint of fiscal responsibility it seems like we’re giving money to an organization that doesn’t need it.
