Sasha and Malia Dolls Irk First Lady
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/President44/story?id=6716085&page=1

This week Michelle Obama's spokeswoman, Katie McCormick Lelyveld, explained how the first lady feels about new dolls on the market that share her daughters' names.

"We believe it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes," Lelyveld said in a statement.

1. I'm going to have to agree.
If they can be forced to pull them from market, I'm all for it.

They're tacky, and it's invasive.

7. Yes but they are also downright adorable
and I will be buying a set each for my grand daughters. Why? Because our little "we get just about everything we want" grand tots say they just can't live without them and that is good enough for Grandma and Grandpa.

2. They better get used to it
People in America need to make a living, so I see no harm, no foul, and they are cute dolls & not disrepectful.

10. Betcha they're made in China and will fall apart...
:(

:hide:

In seriousness, they were not intentionally disrespectful. Yet at the same time, is it making a living telling China to make a bunch of dolls looking like political figures? If that's a job, we could all be millionaires.

3. It's also a copyright violation
They'll need to set up their names in order to have control over their use.

4. I know people have all kinds of objections to this and maybe they're right.

But we've always had, among other kinds of representations, dolls of beloved public figures. It's just part of our culture.

9. "Just touch the wand and the clothes stay on"?!
:wow:

That leads to an unintentional double entendre... not bad for 1961, I suppose.

5. I agree this is inappropriate. But fame comes with a price. The Obamas
had to expect this. And it's only the tip of the iceberg.

11. The real question might be...
Will Sasha and Malia want one? I mean, not every day a girl gets a doll named after her. Oh man, they are cute..and you can bet, they are saying "Dad, can we get one, please? please? please??".

LOL..Ya gotta love it.

12. MIchelle Obama's spokesperson did more to publicize these dolls than the doll maker.

I thinks its disengenuous for the company to deny that the Obama daughters were the inspiration, but the Obama's have no claim to those names on brown skinned girl dolls.

IMO, because there is no harm here they just should have ignored it.
