Did you know that the first printing of the US constitution was bilingual?

A good bit of PA was speaking german, so the constitution was printed in german and english.

12. Growing up in eastern PA

The old folks would speak PA dutch (german), knowing that we couldn't understand. Their own secret code right in front of us!

Except in a few isolated pockets, the language basically went away with World War 1, with only those folks born before then who could speak it.
