So some idiot right winger was trying to tell me income tax was unconstitutional
So some idiot right winger co-worker came over to me and offered me a BS DVD about income taxes actually being unconstitutional.

I told her no I did not want the DVD. Started telling me "If you watched it you would see there is an interview with a former IRS worker who says there is no law or section of the constitution saying income taxes have to be paid".

So I said back to her "Actually at one point in time the SCOTUS did find income taxes to be unconstitutional. In response to that the 16th amendment was passed which clearly allows for income tax collection."

I got the biggest deer in the headlights look I've ever seen. Then after 5 seconds of silent deer in the headlights look I got back "No it doesn't. I have never heard of anything like that". I told her to go look it up when she got home and school her self. Somehow I doubt she will.

Where in the hell do these people come from?

2. They have some theory of a flaw in the 16th Amendment's passage
The usual tinfoil nuttery of far right leaning crackheads.

5. From under rocks. Along with their other "All taxes are bad" idiots.
My crazy mother-in-law whines about taxes (she is unemployed and my father-in-law is an expendable contract worker,) yet wonders why there are so many toll roads and other fees in the state where she lives, which has no income tax. Poor Mr. kt just shakes his head. How he managed to get through his childhood sane with such nutcases raising him is a miracle indeed!

7. It might Be Russo's film.. That I have seen. As well, people have won their
cases against paying the income tax. Its an honest question. Should our labor be taxed or not? Its an idea to assess taxes based on Fair Tax. It won't work unless all poverty is erased, until then a tax on income base seems fair. It wouldn't seem so aweful if the Richies didn't get away with paying so little.. but that's our system as it is now.

9. Do you have email at work?
If so, then you should copy and paste the text of the 16th Amendment and email it to her.

People like your coworker are such idiots. They can't get their little hamster brains beyond the soundbyte "taxes are bad," so they will believe without question anything (like that DVD) that confirms that fear, regardless of its accuracy.

10. It's tempting to assume
that most everyone who looks normal and holds a normal job and has a normal-looking life is aware of common, ordinary things that you take for granted. Unfortunately, it's not so. Lots and lots of people never read books, magazines or newspapers, never travel, never do anything but work, watch crap on TV and blast music in their ears. Lots of people know virtually nothing about history, nothing about science, nothing about art, they can't even find their own state on a map and they have no critical thinking skills. They're basically empty vessels that anyone can pour nonsense into.

13. Guess we'll just have all the government employees work for free from now on
Of course, that may make them quit.

Then we'll have to force them to work for free for the good of the rest of us.

Slavery's okay, right?

What the mother-fucking hell do these people think we could do for no money?

15. Believe it or not, GOP Doctrine is pretty close to what the guy
says.

I am not being sarcastic, rather sincere when I explain that
"Liberty or Freedom" is interpreted to mean freedom to earn and
spend your own money. Taxation is viewed as coercion.

Why do you think tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts is their mantra?

Norquist has often stated --starve the beast. In other words
keep cutting taxes until their is no money for the "New Deal Programs".
and we have freed ourselves of the programs.

Until Democrats understand this, we will be talking past each other.

16. Obama said it in his speech ...
"... we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship."

Of course they believe citizenship is free.
