Jim Bunning - AWOL for Congress, makes it to the balls

When Jim Bunning was asked by a reporter this week why he didn't bother to show up for the first several days of this year's new Congress, he responded that he has "another life besides the U.S. Senate."

The Junior Senator must have had more important things to do than address the budget crisis. He missed critical votes on the 2nd phase of the $700 billion financial sector bailout, and failed to attend three cabinet confirmation hearings.

However, he did manage to pull himself away from his other "life" to attend Inaugural Balls and make the rounds of the Washington party circuit this week.

The nation's economy is a mess and the new administration is working hard to address it, while Jim Bunning can't be bothered to put the country's business ahead of his. Yet he can find time for parties and photo ops.

Now is the time for all of us to begin the work towards sending a Democrat to the United States Senate in 2010; one who will show up for work.

Volunteer to work for your county party, help register new Democrats, talk to your neighbors, and contribute to the Kentucky Democratic Party. The work we do the next twelve months will help us to retire Jim Bunning next year.
