The news this morning: Caroline is back out
The news on MSNBC is that Caroline Kennedy has made a definitive statement and she is withdrawing from consideration as Senator.

I still say sane heads will prevail and we will see Nita Lowey, Louise Slaughter, or Jerry Nadler.

1. I suspect it will be Andrew Cuomo
He'd have an easier job being elected in 2010.

5. His appointment - or not - is more about palace intrigues than what is best for NY
Not that I oppose him. I don't. But he's seen as a rival to Patterson and then there's the former wife (a Kennedy) issue.

The three I named (or someone similar from the state legislature who I wouldn't know) are at least immune to the machinations of the New York power brokers.

6. I'm not sure that any Senatorial seat is primarily concerned with the home state's benefit
House members are sent to Washington to get everything they can for their state and district but Senators are there very much to guide the nation as a hole. That's my take on it anyway. I don't mind a fierce local loyalist in the House but I want a Statesman in the Senate.
