My grandfather was the same way. He got married in 1933, the same year FDR took office. Grandpa thought FDR was a god. Grandpa said the worst thing you could call a person back then was a "Hoover Democrat."

80. and the deep-rooted, unshakable, belief in the living Constitution.
If she had ever become Chief Justice (letting go of the Presidency for a minute) -- you can just bet she wouldn't have fucked up administering the oath of office to the President ascendant.

I just hope SOMEBODY throws that at him next time he whines about needing a raise. Meeting a minimal level of competence at the job is necessary before one deserves a raise, and he has a long way to go.

35. H. Ashley Morris, Ph.D. The best damned blogger there ever was.
http://www.rememberashleymorris.com

His was not simply a life ardently dedicated to New Orleans. His life was inseparable from the city whose fleur de lis symbol he had tattooed upon his arm. He was not just spirited in his love of this city, he was in some sense a spirit of this city, a sort of deva or force of nature, the dedication so many people feel for New Orleans concentrated and made incarnate in living flesh. 61. Apart from the DU'ers we have lost
Kef, Andy Stephenson, Playhata, OldJunkMail, Nostamj and all the others who deserved to be here

I would have liked my mother to have seen this day. She was clued in to how evil the Bush and Cheney crew were and what a complete disaster they would be long before I was and she detested them She would have been amazed

My maternal grandparents as well. My grandfather was raised in colonial Southeast Asia and had the British as his colonial rulers for half of his life. I think he would have been pleasantly amazed at seeing an African-American in the White House. He was also keenly interested in news and current events -he used to listen to BBC radio news every hour -and he would have loved following all the coverage. My maternal grandmother only missed out on seeing this by a few years but she would have been truly amazed as well

I wish Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks had lived just a few more years. They were so close to seeing history being made. At least they saw Obama get elected to the Senate

Passed in 2002 & 2006. After the 2004 election, my mother asked who I voted for. I said, 'Not Bush.' And she said, at 91 years old, 'Someday you'll learn.' I would LOVE for them both to see this today. They were stereotypical 'white is right' Americans.
