My creepy RW neighbor across the street took his flag down today

He put one of those big authentic flag poles up in his front yard just after Bush invaded Iraq (I believe he put the pole there in response to me removing mine the day ‘shock and awe’ began, cant be so sure) Anyway, He’s been flying the flag every day since in Iraq invasion began. I Put mine back up for the first time today (since the Iraq invasion started) and looked across the street and sure enough, his flag is gone..

were talking about taking their flags down today and not putting them back up until President Obama is gone. Dickheads, one and all. I put my flag out on national holidays. I put it out this morning at 6 AM. It's the only flag out on my street.

I did the same thing in November 2004, put the flag away and said I was never going to put it up again, that I no longer felt this was my country. I got defiant by President's Day, though, and decided the right-wing cabal was NOT taking my flag or my country from me, and went back to displaying it appropriately on flag display days (no, I do not fly a flag night and day until it becomes a nasty tattered rag).

So I can understand the initial impulse, however childish it may be.

Still, it's kinda nice to have the shoe on the other foot for a change.

32. When I took mine down

It was because I was sooooo seriously heart broken when we invaded Iraq. I worked so hard to do something that might prevent it. I protested, signed petitions, called my representatives, joined groups and more and in the end, a majority of Americans supported it. I was just profoundly disappointed and my flag became a symbol of that disappointment, and as a protest, I vowed not to fly the flag until I was proud of it again. Maybe it was illogical and unpatriotic, I don’t know, But it’s back up now. (I supported invading Afghanistan and overthrowing the Taliban and capturing Osama)
