Hissyspit Is Proud To Announce Saging Of White House A Complete Success PHOTOS
Monday night there was a gathering in Dupont Circle for a symbolic saging and cleansing of The White House put together by Rachel Maddow's friend comedian Kate Clinton. How did this come together? she asked, as she began the proceedings. Well, after the election, she joked, ""we should get together and sage The White House and here we are. Our long mental curfew is over... you can practically hear the shredders working now." "The legacy of the Bush administration is clean-up on aisle 5 ... and 7 ... and 9 ... and everywhere you can think of." As a multi-spiritual event, Clinton said she was inspired by the Catholic liturgy to lead us in a litany. Our response to call list for each item was "Hey, Hey, Goodbye!" She went through the litany of Bush crimes and corruptions and incompetences: "Axis of Evil." "Hey, Hey, Goodbye!" "My Pet Goat." "Hey, hey, goodbye." "Preemptive War. Waterboarding. Guantanimo. Data Mining. Drowning of New Orleans. Halliburton. NCLB. Televangelists. Intelligent Design. Drilling in Anwar. Truthiness. Cheering the Lie, Spitting On the Truth. Don't Ask. Don't Tell." And on she went, with the crowd answering each time.

Then, Brooklyn's favorite Shaman Momma Donna came on the stage. "Where we go from here is up to us. We have the power and I think that we forgot that. It's time to wake up." She proceeded to spray water from a spray bottle on the persons at the front of the crowd, water collected from many special places around the globe. And she called for the burning of the sage, noting that she had only recently realized that is was inded "holy smoke," and the cleansing of not only the White House, but all that needs to be purified.

Below, I have also posted photos from the DU meet-up on Capitol Hill later that night.

See you tomorrow.

The Metros were packed, but things ran smoothly today wherever I was...

When I got to Dupont Circle again, I found that throwing shoes at the giant inflatable George W. Bush was still extremely popular even after the sun had gone down...

The crowd was large, excited and waved hello to the helicopter spotlighting us...

Kate Clinton introduced the proceedings as people in the crowd held their burning sage bundles...

Momma Donna appears...

Momma Donna drummed...

When the cleansing was done, people danced to "(You Make Me Feel) Mighty Real" by Sylvester...

Mounted Police security...

On the way to the DU meet-up, I found the place with the official Obama burger. Well, maybe not that official...

Skinner, EarlG and Mopinko at the Hawk & Dove...

Admiral Loanpresser and Evlbstrd...

This Breaking News announcement was popular with the DUers in the room when it came up on the bar's flat-screen TV...

Other DUers who showed up included LynneSin, Texas Explorer, ravenschick, Mavus, demgurl, IdahoBlue, and wolverinedg. Sorry if I missed anyone!

11. Jealous!!! DANG I wish I was there. My son is, though. He's a presidential scholar
and got invited to an inaugural conference. They heard Al Gore speak today.

WAY cool to see everybody's photos! MUCH love to you all! You guys ROCK!!! Or maybe make that - BARACK!!!

Thanks, Hissyspit! I'm glad to hear that the saging went on! And also that the shoe-throwing was continuing. MAN - does that paint a picture of how much that bastard is hated, or what? AMAZING. And certainly well-deserved!

16. Oh, thanks! Now I know what I'm going to do tomorrow! SAGE!
I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, can't travel, no TV (but have radio). (No, I'm not in jail. Just live in a rural outback.) Anyway, I was wondering how to celebrate. And a good smudging of all the ANGER I have felt, all the RAGE, all the INSULT, all the HORROR, at the Bushwhacks (AND at collusive Democrats) needs to be done, which of course does not erase good outraged energy, but transforms it, so it doesn't eat you up, but motivates you toward positive activities. SAGE! I'll smudge my house and grounds, and cleanse my little patch of America to buoy up the good spirits of our land and our wonderful people.

Smudging the White House is the best idea I've seen yet. I had thought more in terms of a BIG BROOM, sweeping the detritus out of our capitol city. But SAGE is even better. It doesn't just clean; it transforms.

And suddenly I am struck by the enormity of what is happening in DC, and I don't mean the inauguration, especially. I mean THE PEOPLE. The millions of people who have gone there, who are filling the streets, who are celebrating, who were drawn. It is the American peoples' city once again!

I remember a speech that Dennis Kucinich gave back in 2004, I think. He described the atmosphere of fear that he had to face every day going to Congress. The barricades. The guards. The militarization of the whole experience of government. And how it affects your mind and soul. It was a revelation. I hadn't considered how Bush junta "security" might be affecting our leaders, personally, every day.

But now...now...despite the continued intrusions of "security," the People are taking their city back. In the millions. The crowning of the emperor? Bah! I'm not into the trappings of the monarchy that we have become. I think our democracy has become an illusion, and I am alarmed at most of Obama's appointees, and ambivalent about him. (Truly ambivalent--I just don't know.) (Just learned that Sen. Diane Feinstein is some sort of presiding officer at the inauguration, and I couldn't be more disgusted at that. I think it means that she will be Obama's first Supreme Court appointee--and she is a corporate servant and a war profiteer. If we had any illusions about curtailing our corporate rulers' control of our legal system, we can forget that--if this ceremonial function means what I think it means.) Anyway, THE PEOPLE are something quite apart from the imperial drapings. If we are ever to restore democracy here, it has to come from the people. And that is what I am perceiving and appreciating once again, as I did during the campaign--that it is not Obama, but Obama's supporters who are the miracle that has occurred. I give Obama that. He inspires people. People project their desire for good government and real justice, and, God knows, their desire for peace, upon him. He may or may not be able to achieve those things. I think he has a very restricted venue of power visa vis our corporate rulers. BUT, he has activated millions of people, and that is the key to real reform. The People.

I will burn sage for The People tomorrow.

Even more so now after the swearing-in and the parade.
