cnn talking about snipers-does anyone remember if this was an issue
ever? Are they bored and want to talk about security? I understand the need for security but don't recall it being an issue. Should we all now worry?

1. I think we always have to be concerned with all the right wing nut jobs out there....
With the number of threats and the fact that Secret Service have had extreme security around PE Obama, it's always troubling....

5. But do 'we' need to know details? I'm pretty much convinced
Obama has been and will be protected. The sniper story seems gratuitous to me.

7. I agree, it almost seems like they are putting that out there to dare someone to...
take liberties and try something. But hey, thats our MSM for you.

2. I'd say they are late to the game.

I worked in an office building next door to a rather nice hotel where * would stay while in town all the last eight years. There were snipers on every rooftop, and the Secret Service canvassed all the buildings. I think that it's standard procedure for these sorts of events. Does that help? Or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?

on edit: removed extraneous info

3. Isn't it always an issue?
I mean, every set of photos almost universally includes a photo of SS sharp shooters on some high building.

4. After the semi-auto ban passed in 1994, there was this one guy who opened fire on the White House
Brought in an SKS rifle under his coat and just started shooting at the windows. I think he got tackled by a Secret Service agent, a Park Ranger, and a civilian who just happened to be in the vicinity.

Since then, I'm not surprised that there's been more focus on sharpshooters as part of the security detail.

12. I have a relative in the military
working the medical end of things. She has left personal instructions in case of a worst case scenario as have her coworkers for their families. There is big worry in high places. I hope all goes without a hitch.

13. Ugh. I guess I don't want to know what the worries are.
I just wonder if they are valid. Has this man been more 'targeted' than any other? I don't really think so, but the internets are alive with numbnuts, too.

9. They should have to name their source and report it to authorities and the public.
Otherwise, they are creating a threat.
