40 years ago tomorrow, two people left government service.
One was Lyndon Baines Johnson. The other was me. On January 20, 1969, the US Army extracted its fangs from me and allowed me to limp off into blessed oblivion. I just remembered that today.

4. I was drafted in February 1967, went to Vietnam
as a groundpounder in July, spent a year on a hiking and camping tour of Indochina, returned to the States in July '68, and was assigned to Ft. Hood, TX from then until I got a few days shaved off my term of active duty in order to go back to school as a second-semester senior. They let me go on January 20, 1969.
