I have cousins fairly close in age to the Obama girls (almost 9 and 7) and that's all they listen to.

12. I was in 7th grade before i was even remotely interested in music
...my friends were the same.. but then that was before transistor radios, and the parents controlled the one record player..

Kids were not "into" music "back in the day"....

Girls the ages of Sasha & Malia were into riding bikes, jumping rope, roller skating through out the neighborhood, avoiding all contact with those mean-ole-boys..and maybe a rousing week-long game of monopoly with a few friends:)

16. When I was that age
girls were really into the Beatles.

As a 7 year old boy, I couldn't quite figure it out

31. Oh, good grief
I'll remember this post as I recall my own girlhood of falling madly in love with the 'cello at the age of seven. (I had to learn to play the piano before my parents would get me one (we had a piano) and to prove I was serious about the 'cello.)

Then I heard "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" on my tinny transistor radio at the age of ten. Fell in love again.

Yeah, girls that age were never in to music "back in the day." And yet I still managed to jump rope, ride a bike, and ignore boys. Whodathunkit.

32. You are a "bit" younger, Mz. Good Grief !
I was in college by the time that song came out:)

we didn't even have TV until I was 14 :)

I think the Beatles were the first music I enjoyed:)

Never liked Elvis ..I was not living in the US until 1962, so most of the stuff before that, I porbably never even heard..

My husband was born in '43, and some of the old songs he liked, I had never even heard of..except on "Name that Tune" when it ran for a while in the 70's:)

27. I've lucked out. My daughter (just turned 11) thinks their music is "cheesy", prefers John Lennon
Kanye West and Gren Day while my son (12) loves Foo Fighters, Social Distortion, Nirvana, and Green Day. I think they inherited good genes. ;)

30. Well, some of them.
My kid's the same age as their younger girl, and he hates that stuff. He's more into early 80s hardcore. Series.

25. I think they are the dudes that took a purity pledge
I saw one of their videos all about girls with lots of girls in tight clothes...maybe they are from Disney who likes to promote performers who reject sex but push sex at the same time?

18. Yes, they love Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. They are kids after all.
Who should they like? Bob Dylan or Pete Seeger?

Let them be the kids that they are.

22. My 8 year old's favorite: Social Distortion
and the other day I heard her quoting the lyrics to Black Sabbath's Paranoid. That was a funny surreal moment. She also likes the Pink Floyd album Animals, but mainly because she's a big animal lover.

Thank you Activision for the Guitar Hero games! My kids bypassed all the Kids Bop, Hanna Montana, and High School Musical crap and went right to the good stuff. They have no interest in American Idol either.

24. Don't you remember at the DNC convention, after Michelle gave her speech and the girls were onstage,
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 08:10 PM by Beaverhausen
Michelle said something to Malia like "and now for a surprise" and you could see Malia say to her mom..."The Jonas Brothers?"

Sadly, it was only her dad.

You can see her say it here...57 seconds in
