Woman Left Truck To Accompany Fiance To ER

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -- A Greenville County postal worker who got notice this week that she was being fired for leaving her route to help her wounded fiancé learned Wednesday that she won't lose her job, after all.

Tammy Rochester’s fiancé, David Dill, was shot while he was following a bank robbery suspect on Dec. 10.

...
Dill was hit in the wrist and neck. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance where he underwent emergency surgery and spent six days in the intensive care unit.

Rochester said that after calling her shift manager, she left her locked mail truck and her keys with a Greenville County sheriff's plain-clothes deputy to go with Dill to the hospital.

Rochester said that while it appeared her fiancé might not survive, she filed paperwork for some emergency leave time. Rochester said she had 66 hours of leave time due her, but the Postal Service later denied the request.

Rochester got a letter of removal last week saying her position with the postal service would be terminated within 30 days of receipt of the letter for failing to properly perform her duties and for being absent without leave.

2. The martinet who denied the emergency leave
is the one who needs to be terminated.

Unfortunately, all they could do is fire him.
