Liz Taylor gives Hillary Clinton campaign $100,000

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Elizabeth Taylor likes the way Hillary Rodham Clinton thinks and that is worth a check for $100,000.

While the rest of Hollywood starts to choose sides in the 2008 U.S. presidential race, Taylor has already picked the New York Democratic senator as her favorite candidate and written her a $100,000 check for the campaign.

In a statement released on Thursday, the actress said, "I have contributed to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign because she has a mind of her own and a very strong one at that.

"I like the way she thinks. She is very savvy and a smart leader with years of experience in government, diplomacy and politics."

Taylor's spokesman Dick Guttman said the campaign donation was $100,000....cont'd

1. Not true. She only gave $2,100.
Liz Taylor backs Hillary Clinton in presidential race

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood may be debating who to support in the 2008 presidential election, but Dame Elizabeth Taylor already has her woman -- Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In a statement on Thursday, the actress said, "I have contributed to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign because she has a mind of her own and a very strong one at that. I like the way she thinks. She is very savvy and a smart leader with years of experience in government, diplomacy and politics."

A spokesman for the 74-year-old actress said she had contributed $2,100 to the New York Democratic senator, the legal limit an individual can give in a primary campaign. Earlier the spokesman had said Taylor gave $100,000, but said that was an incorrect figure based on misinformation.

5. Another link to save to the Campaign 2008 Favorites file for debunking
critics later. The Obama/madrassa story correction is also saved there.

2. She will have to give most of it back
Individuals are only allowed to give $2300 for a campaign. If she wins the nomination Taylor could give $2300 more.

6. I thought Elizabeth Taylor was a British citizen?
She was knighted by the Queen.

Oh well. My mom who's a big fan of hers will be disappointed. She doesn't like Hillary at all.

8. Becoming knighted by the Queen does not make one a British citizen

10. it's even trickier
she WAS born in Britain, but to American parents. She was a US citizen when she was born.

She remained a US Citizen until she married Richard Burton, when she gave up her American citizenship and became a British citizen, which she has remained.
