Thoughts About the Group Citizens Against Government Waste
What do members of DU think about the group Citizens Against Government Waste? I am one of those people who is against government waste and I have been to the website of CAGW. I also signed up for emails from the group in that I was considering joining the group in that, as I said, I am one of those people who is against government waste. A few years ago I looked through a book put out by CAGW and it contained some interesting information about government waste. It detailed how certain government organizations had purchased more items than they needed and other instances in which certain organizations seemed to be using more resources than they needed. In addition, it seems that the group was listed in some liberal books. However, after signing up for emails from CAGW it seems like the group might be more concerned with keeping taxes from being raised than stopping true government waste. The last few emails I have received from the group have detailed how they have stopped programs that could have called for raising taxes. However, there seems to have been little talk about stopping Congress from passing legislation that spent taxpayer money on items like fishing farms and museums that could have been funded with private money. So, what do DUers think about CAGW? Is its main goal preventing government waste or preventing the raising of taxes? I will try to do some of my own research on the group.

1. my take on them
whether or not they'll admit it, they are Right wing. Look at their gradings. Taxes is their main issue (they throw the pork in just for PR). Republicans always (and I mean always) grade extremely high, Dems extremely low. Social issues, when they do it, is the same way.

2. They are a useful ally for going after programs you don't like.
I, too, see them as essentially conservative, but I support them when they call for things like an end to federal grants for those drug task force cowboys.
