Ken Salazar is in the hot seat just now
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 12:07 PM by Froward69
he is up for Sec of the Interior. He is a good man. Before entering Politics He Actually was a Farmer. I do know he has a problem with Monsanto. the right is blasting him over Oil shale. When the truth is Oil shale uses resources we do not have namely WATER. Water is the "third rail" In Western politics. AS well as Oil shale requires strip mining, and Granted there is enough Oil in shale to rival Saudi Arabia. yet that oil is contained in the same amount of sand as the entire middle east. sand is its Byproduct. the republicans never say what their plan is for all that sand.

lets give him some Support...

4. He also voted for torture. My guess is he will approve water boarding for the bison if they leave
the park and for the people working to protect the bison if they cause him problems.

If he gets turned down maybe we could get someone for interior less connected to the corporations who brought us gw bush?

10. I'm an American first and foremost. You got a problem with that?
I don't support people who support torture.

You can support torturers enthusiastically if you like, I don't care.

I support prison time for torturers. After they've done their time and repented and asked for forgiveness, yes, that is the time to forgive.

But backing criminals isn't my thing.

I'm a Democratic precinct person. Are you?

A Democratic precinct Boss... As well as I volunteer at the Colorado Democratic Party. I have met BOTH Salazar Brothers. He (Ken) will be one of the BEST interior Secretary's ever.

funny thing is you and I are not that far apart in our politics... I guess just on K. Salazar's appointment.

and I can tell you flat out I'd hate for my Senior Senator, Max Baucus, to get a Cabinet job.

He's almost a Repo on lots and lots of stuff.

He brings a ton of money into the State as Chair of The Finance Committee. That's good for the state of course, but in some ways the price may be higher than the benefits.

I see Salazar and Baucus as similar in that they are part of the 12 to 15 Dem Senators who always seem to be crossing over and voting with the Repos on a whole lot of very bad bills.

I mean, Baucus does do some good stuff once in a while but most of the time he embarrasses me to be in the same political p

7. What are his views on water management in the west?
Not meant to flame, I'm honestly curious about this.

9. Water is the #1 issue out here
in the west. Salazar Is a staunch believer in water rights for farmers. Then cities. Downstream States like Arizona should learn to curtail their water use. One of my favorite points from the primary's was mcCain espousing Arizona garnering more water to keep Golf courses green. When water is needed for food production. not a lush green.

11. I know a little something about water. Those who control it, control everything.
And there isn't enough.

When you say "farmers" you mean Monsanto, and Sinplot, right?

Have you read Cadillac Desert, or Rivers of Empire? Good reads.

15. I too know a little bit about water around here.
I mean Arkansas river basin. (Rocky ford- melons, Onions) or Alamosa {Rio-Grande river basin} (apples, veggies), Grand Junction {Colorado River basin} (peaches, apples etc)or Greeley {S platte River basin}(wheat, sugar beats, veggies)

you and I have clashed before during the primary's. Here in Colorado, water is just as precious as water in Hawaii. as EVERY DROP in this state, FALLS on this state. no flow in to this state. (green river NW corner of the state is in a canyon from the time it enters Colorado from Utah till it leaves, back into Utah.)

8. Another method is to pump high temp/high pressure steam directly underground...
But that consumes nearly as much energy as it extracts (as well as MUCH water, as you stated). But don't expect that to stop them from doing it - especially if they can get gubmint subsidies to do so.

Then again, oil below $40/gallon and none of the alternatives (shale or sand) are affordable. Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!
