3. It is obvious

Coulters whole shtick is to put out yet another 'Liberals are devils and will eat your children' book and then go on TV and make the most outrageous statements she can so the media will make statements along the lines of 'Ann Coulter, who has just released a new (best seller) book, said something really bad today'.
Free advertising for a bad book, the statements appeal to lowest of the low which make up most of her fans. As an aside, and I am sure most people on DU know this, the little rightwing trick that makes all their authors best sellers is to have organizations buy up their books in bulk and give them away (or not) just to run up the sales numbers.
